@emilinda3 and I decided to be adventurous last Friday (celebrate us getting married in a year) and had our first omakase experience @ @omakase_sf! It was spectacular and I'm not sure ill ever be able to eat regular sushi again. The uni and all the nigiri were sooo good, I don't think I can eat reg fish anytime soon just so I can savor the taste. We will definitely have to try the new spots hyping up in the city soon for comparison!
Hamo with ume, shiso, ichimi, and sesame at Morita, Kokura. Ume, shiso and hamo aren't an unusual combination (in fact, even American fusion-style sushiya like #sushiofgari serve this). But the uniqueness was in the fact that the shiso served more as a component of the base flavor rather than a seasoning. In addition, while hamo is typically poached, in this case it was touched on the bincho and served mostly raw, grilled-side down - a similar presentation to grilled items that I had also noticed at Osamu and Tenzushi. The result was a completely different texture. The overall taste was very bright and summery, which was probably by design. The shape of the sushi here was somewhat fat and round, which allowed the seasonings to be delivered in a compact way with each bite.
Next Tuesday, August 29, our sushi bar Omakase will include more pieces and be priced at $75. We will still have our $55 Omakase available but limited to table service only. Call us and make your reservation with us today!
