Kalabatu, a friend who made travelling to the other side of the world, by myself, at 18, alllll worth it.
And whose smile is infectious.
Cannot wait to hold that hand again.
I can't quite believe it has been 4 whole years since my trip to Sabah, Borneo to help rehabilitate and protect the endangered orangutan. On my very first week I met this guy, Kalabatu - A young orangutan who came to the conservation facility as a baby orphan, after his mum had been slaughtered by loggers.
Look at him now, full of confidence and as naughty as I remember.
Many of these endangered apes are orphaned each year due to human conflict. Deforestation for palm oil, acacia and rubber plantations, has tragically caused a conservation emergency and welfare crisis for these majestic and intelligent great apes.
As a result of the destruction of their home, sadly Orangutans find themselves entering plantations or villages in search of food, resulting in violent attacks using machetes by the local workers and villagers.
The work being carried out at Sepilok is astonishing, helping each individual animal gain independence and spirit, giving them a second chance at life.

PALM OIL KILLS IT IS NOT VEGAN IT HIDES UNDER MANY NAMES SO YOU STILL BUY IT ! If an ingredient is vegetable oil its most likely part or all palm oil! Palm oil is bad for animals humans and the planet it is in oreos so therefore oreos can not be vegan because they directly kill animals! PLEASE PLEASE DONT SUPPORT PALM OIL !!!!!! You can still EASILY be vegan without buying processed foods containing palm oil, its not worth it.
