I love how oysters which grow in cool weather develop the prettiest tones of dove grey and smoky lavender, and how the caps look like velour. This is my favorite time to harvest them, as they tend to be bug-free as well. #pleurotusostreatus#oystermushrooms
Mushrooms Galore from @oysterandking, had so much fun using these deliciousness at my cooking class last night! ***
FUN FACTS ABOUT SHROOMS 🍄
❤️Mushrooms aren't veggies, they're fun guys (fungi - fruit of a fungus!)
💛They are a rich source of glutamic acid (the natural version of monosodium glutamate a.k.a. MSG) so they naturally enhance the flavour of anything they are cooked with. 💚They are great source of fiber, protein, B Vitamins and zinc. They also provide Vitamin D as they absorb it through the sunshine just like we do!
💙Mushrooms are a cooling food that helps disperse heat and discharge toxins & mucus. 💜Health Benefits: strengthens immunity, helps fight cancer, improves brain function, supports heart health, boosts energy and anti-inflammatory
❤️Once cut, they oxidize quickly, turns brown, softens and the flavours are compromised. Always cut just prior to use! 💛They are best stored in a brown paper bag or cloth bag as they become slimy when stored in plastic.
💚Do not consume raw mushrooms as there are trace quantities of a suspected carcinogen, hydranized agaritine, which cooking destroys. Plus, cooked Mushrooms taste way better! 😉
Dinner! And then some, eh?! .
Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus): Knowledgable mushroom lovers all over the world wait until the fall of the year to pursue the robust oyster mushrooms that grow on trees in the wild. Shortly after the first rains of the season, the snow-gray petal-like beginnings of P. ostreatus can be found. The autumn forest is brightened with the delicate, young, translucent, eccentrically stemmed caps cascading shelflike from the surface of dead hardwood trees. The cap is scallop shaped and has a delicate aniselike aroma not usually found in oyster mushrooms grown on artifical material. Occasionally, tan caps will be found, and some of these can spread out to 18 inches in diameter, with thick, meaty flesh. #foraging#forager#oystermushrooms#freshisbest#woodswandering#drummondisland
I REALLY enjoyed this. The mango in the salad with the oyster mushrooms worked so well together. If you're missing southern fried chicken...these oyster mushrooms are pretty close in comparison. Here's what i did... 💦Wash and tear mushrooms into strips 🥛Have 1 bowl with hemp milk 🥄Have another bowl with quinoa flour, a generous amount of salt, onion powder, thyme and any other seasonings of choice (you could add cayenne if you like spicy food). Make sure seasoning is mixed well with the flour. 🍄Dip the mushroom pieces first in the hemp milk making sure they are fully emersed and then dip them in the second bowl of flour ensuring full coverage. 👩🍳Now its just a matter of frying them in hot grapeseed oil.
Its a good idea to place cooked mushrooms on a plate lined with some kitchen roll to soak up some of the oil. Whilst these foods are 'safe', anything fried generally isn't really considered healthy. So everything in moderation.
72 hours after first knots were seen, and we've got some pretty decent growth. #oystermushrooms or #Pleurotusostreatus has only been in fruit for six days total! This is great to watch. So strong. #mothernature is so awesome. Soo, fun fact mixed into an interesting story: I found a gnat crawling across the top of this #laundrybaskettek and when I tried to scare him off, seemed to stumble around. After messing with him a bit, noticing that his wings were all juicy with metabolites, I thought maybe I'll just leave him there and see what happens with this robust myc. And I'll be darned if the myc didn't just eat that stupid fly. Well at least that's the way it seemed so I looked it up (being already in love with carnivorous plants) and it turns out! That this myc is known to kill and eat nemotodes (round worm) as well as bacteria. This makes it officially one of the very few known "carnivorous mushrooms". #carnivorousfungi#gourmetmeds#mycology#myzen#mushlove#tripteamfamily
