Our emotions can be confusing and overwhelming. We often have no idea what to do with them, and we may be tempted to push them away. Our kids have no idea what they are feeling. They need us to help them label and validate their emotions. This helps them regulate their emotions and learn from them.
It’s important to remember that emotions aren’t the problem. What causes problems is when we don’t know how to express them in ways that are healthy and safe. Accepting our feelings, rather than judging or pushing them away them helps us learn from them and find solutions. This positive stance helps us be kind and compassionate with ourselves, and helps our kids to do this too.
When we label our emotions, it helps our kids to label theirs. Sharing difficult feelings helps them see it is okay to talk about them. Labeling emotions out loud takes away some of their power. It also helps our kids learn how to handle them.
Don’t worry if you’re not great at understanding and working with your emotions. You can learn right along with your kids!
I just got a new bottle of Nangai Oil for my personal use today! I had one a few months ago, but my son got ahold of it and put it ALL OVER his face and shirt. 🙈🤦🏻♀️ #momfail#toddlerlife#parenthood
I can’t wait to use it on my face to get rid of acne scars and my cuticles and elbows to keep them moisturized!
I was hanging out with some fellow moms recently, and after listening to each of them about their kids and parenting struggles, I learned something life changing. You want to know what it was? Come here, I'll tell you....(whispering) come a little closer.....even closer.....I learned that NONE OF US ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!!!!!!! The secret is out! >>> Doesn't it make you feel better to know that you're not the only one that has no flippin clue as to what you are doing with your children!? It sure made me feel better! >>> Seriously... moms, you are not alone. You do not need to have all the answers...and you probably won't! And you know what else!? That is also why it is so important to surround yourself with other moms. You can share victories, and defeats, advice on what worked and what didn't. Community is a life saver, and a necessity! With our powers combined we could know a FEW things on parenting. But for the most part, just try and stay one day ahead of your little ones. #momlife#secret#momsecret
#FlashbackFriday The kids survived #Hollywood because we guard them like ninjas and knights. Being a successful parent means doing bodyguard duty 24/7 and never sleeping soundly again. The first Rule of Life the kids have to learn is that, besides your parents, all you have is each other. You gotta have each other's back. Nobody is going to help you, the government is corrupt, everybody is out for their own survival. Don't trust anybody, choose your friends wisely. Adults have screwed up the world, it's up to you to fix it. Unfortunately they will learn all these things whether we tell them or not. #Family is all there is. #LifeLessons#Parenthood#Childhood
Such a great remember. Parenting is a tough path to navigate but it is important that we evolve with the times and prepare our children for the world they are going to experience, not the world we grew up in. 👪
We had the most lovely appointment today in our new dental practice. The dentist was great with the children, she explained everything she was doing, answered their questions and let them watch through daddy's appointment. I was really worried how my daughter will cope given that her last visit at the dentist involved tooth extraction and tons of screaming. She was a superstar! #unschooling#parenthood
If you're good ,you will be rewarded if you want to act up ,you will have muscles .. and thinking about what you done while you get em!! HE MUST THOUGHT ME AND HIS MOTHER WAS PLAYING🤔 NEXT..WALL SQUATTING (NO WHOPPING) THIS HURTS WORSE. #PARENTHOOD

·I am the keeper.
I am the keeper of schedules. Of practices, games, and lessons. Of projects, parties, and dinners. Of appointments and homework assignments.
I am the keeper of solutions. Of bandaids and sewing kits and snacks in my purse. But also of emotional balms and metaphorical security blankets.
I am the keeper of preferences. Of likes and dislikes. Of nightly rituals and food aversions.
I am the keeper of reminders. To be kind, to pick up their trash, to do their dishes, to do their homework, to hold open doors and write thank you notes.
I am the keeper of rituals and memories. Of pumpkin patches and Easter egg hunts. I am the taker of pictures, the collector of special ornaments, and the writer of letters.
I am the keeper of emotional security. The repository of comfort, the navigator of bad moods, the holder of secrets and the soother of fears.
I am the keeper of worry. Theirs and my own.
I am the keeper of the good and the bad, the big and the small, the beautiful and the hard.
Most of the time, the weight of these things I keep resembles the upper elements on the periodic table - lighter than air, buoying me with a sense of purpose.
But sometimes the weight of the things I keep pulls me down below the surface until I am kicking and struggling to break the surface and gasp for breath.
Because these things I keep are constantly flickering in the back of my brain, waiting to be forgotten. They scatter my thoughts and keep me awake long past my bedtime.
Because all these things I keep are invisible, intangible. They go unnoticed and unacknowledged until they are missed. They are not graded or peer reviewed or ruled on by a court. And sometimes they are taken for granted.
This is by far the greatest job I have ever had. But sometimes being the Keeper is exhausting. Because you feel like you're doing it alone.
So to all of you who are keepers, I see you.
I know the weight of the things you keep.
I know the invisible work you do, which doesn't come with a pay check or sick leave, is what makes the world go round.
I see you.
And I salute you." #parenthood . #seeyou#luckyorangepants
Emma's date night with Grandad . Just the two of them off to our favourite Japanese restaurant. Emma has been counting sleeps and planning her outfit all week, its beautiful how excited she is.
Mummy is off for dinner with the girls 🍸
So grateful to have my family for support. Mum is visiting my brother for the school holidays and as soon as I mentioned I had a night out, Dad jumped at the chance to come for the weekend and help me out. They live two hours away on the farm. He is such a big part of Emma's life and it's lovely to watch how much they adore each other.
Thanks Dad ❤️❤️
