I struggled a lot while in the Khumbu, but not in the way that most would probably imagine - and not in the way that I imagined either.
It was cold, yeah. But it wasn't that cold. The few mountains that we climbed and the passes that were overcame were high, but they weren't that high. Our packs were heavy, but they weren't that heavy. The food was bad. But it wasn't that bad.
The views that we experienced were great - some of the most dramatic that I've ever seen. But the experiences required to attain them never pushed me in the way that I have conditioned myself to desire. To require.
After surviving the Endless Chain Ridge with @lanleyc in Alberta, I thought that I needed to slow down, to challenge myself in ways that were "less extreme." I thought that by going back to Nepal and just moving through the mountains and by being "present" that I could fill that void.
The truth is that on this trip, I was rarely present. My mind was always up on the slopes and summits of the great peaks that surrounded me on every side.
Trapped in my own world and without the challenges of the extreme, the adventure became anything but. It became routine.
Di notte ogni cosa assume forme più lievi, più sfumate, quasi magiche. Tutto si addolcisce e si attenua, anche le rughe del viso e quelle dell’anima.
