Have you ever lost urine because you have laughed? It is the same mechanism as when losing urine with coughing and sneezing. The pelvic floor loses its grip on supporting the bladder and urethra, when the bladder is full and the pressure in the abdomen increases suddenly with the laughter. It may be worse when you have a full bladder. Practice this
When you have finished passing urine. Stay sitting on the toilet. Practice laughing with an empty bladder. 4-5 good HA HA HA HA HAs should do it..... Now contract the pelvic floor muscles and repeat the laughter - concentrate on the lift of the pelvic floor while you laugh. Do this every time you pass urine as a way of training the brain - pelvic floor connection.
See SHE for additional help.

Kegel?! Many woman start to Kegel postpartum. This routine can be more effective and can be done prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy and postpartum. The routine helps women to find their pelvic floor and explore the bones and mucsles attached. Why wait until postpartum when the entire pelvis is traumitized?
This routine teaches women to lift up and out of the pelvic floor. Many women wind up with hemorrhoids because they are not taught how to push out vaginally. When they go into labour and are told to push, and they push like they are having a bowel movement.
Just had a baby? Wait 2-3 weeks before giving this a go, but then try. It will restore the tone and function back to the pelvic floor quickly.
Reduced levels of estrogen during peri-menopause and menopause can cause thinning of the lining of the urethra. Surrounding pelvic muscles also may weaken with aging, as a result, risk for urinary incontinence, or the involuntary leakage of urine increases.
You can manage incontinence by performing Kegel exercise technique several times a day:
• Lie on the floor and squeeze or pull in the pelvic muscles.
• Hold them tight for a count of three.
• Release, rest for moment and repeat.

Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: the pelvic floor helps to support the pelvic organs - bladder, uterus and bowel. The organs are larger than the space between the two sides of the deep layer of the pelvic floor which helps to keep them in place. The deep layer of the pelvic floor, known as the levator ani, surrounds the vagina on either side. When it becomes weak and thin, this gap widens which increases the risk of the organs sliding through which is called a prolapse. A prolapse is essentially a herniation of one or more pelvic organs into the vagina
Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The pelvic floor is not just muscle, nor is it only one muscle. It comprises several layers of muscles, ligaments and fascia ...and it does not act in isolation www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au #pelvicfloor
