Close encounters of the third kind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Design and Architecture: Designed by Grimshaw Architects, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (PPFMS), is Miami's newest museum, next to the already impressive Perez Museum (PAMM). The PPFMS was an ambitious $305 million project designed as a “living building” - physically and visibly changing in response to environment, events and the mood of the city. It aims to be one of the most innovative and sustainable museums. The 250,000 square-foot complex harnesses energy from water, sun, wind and even museum visitors to power exhibits and conserve resources.

A few words from the architect: "The heart of the complex is a veritable biosystem, with a tensile fabric membrane roof covering the impressive ‘gulf stream tank’, a 500,000 gallon tilted conical aquarium that allows visitors to peer through a 30 foot diameter oculus. Aside from creating interior effects through the refraction of light through water, the geometric parameters of the reservoir are such that patrons will not be able to perceive the structure’s walls, mimicking the environment of the open ocean. engineered for longevity, the form is a monolithic concrete shell reinforced by a radially columned ring beam in the basin’s center of mass. "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the museum: The museum features 250,000ft² of dedicated space for health and food, technology and communications, basic physics and living species. It is comprised of a revolutionary 500,000 gallon three-story aquarium, a 10,000ft² travelling gallery, a vegetated roof, a 250 seat 3D multimedia digital planetarium, an observatory, a learning center and an outdoor playground.

DORIS SALCEDO, Disremembered VII, 2016 - Seen at WHITE CUBE booth in last ART BASEL,Basel ~ So impressive and so valuable art practice Salcedo one, I had the chance to discover and go into it during her last stunning exhibition in Perez Art Museum in Miami last summer. Still admiring her work.- -

Using common objects in uncommon ways, Doris Salcedo ( b. 1958, Bogotá, Colombia) seeks to investigate how trauma can make daily life strangely unfamiliar. Her artwork referred to the difficult task of recovering individual dignity for victims of torture and violence, giving presence to the absent body, the marginalized, and those who remain invisible in the eyes of society. Over the last years, the artist has created sculptures, installations, and public works that are informed by recent histories of her native Colombia, as well as wider legacies of sufferings stemming from colonialism, racism, and other forms of social injustice. As a fundamental part of her process, she collects testimonies from victims of violence. So personal narratives, as well as her deep engagement with poetry and philosophy, inform her minimal, sculptural forms. - Disremembered (2014) garments woven from silk thread and needles, represent her newest series. Made of woven raw silk and incorporating nearly 12,000 nickel-plated needles each, these works developed out of years of research into what she perceives to be society’s inability to mourn. At the core of this investigation is a lack of empathy that pervades public life, in which one person’s loss is not registered by others; instead, those in mourning become stigmatized, compounding their pain. Therefore viewed from different angles, the details of the sculptures oscillate between visible and invisible, like a fading memory, emboding a sense of paradox, beautiful yet dangerous.- -

"PENETRABLE by JESUS SOTO 💙
It is incredible the pop of color, texture and fun that adds Soto's Penetrable art installation to the PAMM. The lines, scale, and shape work perfectly with the museum open space, creating a "must go inside" place for photographers and visitors! .

Life is like a camera. Focus on what's important. Capture the good times, Develop from the Negatives. And if it doesn't work out just take another shot.
