#WreckNRule ! #Twintwist follows Topspin on our #WreckWeek tour of the #Transformers#FallofCybertron#Wreckers lineup from 2013 (only the freshest and most relevant #toyreviews here at #bricksnclix 😜)! Retooled from #DecepticonBrawl of the #Combaticons , TwinTwist (one word, in the Fall of Cyberton continuity, apparently) is probably my least favorite of the five. I haven't been shy about my affection for the orange-and-blue color scheme they all share, but this mold, sheesh. The way his head just sorta turtles in between his shoulders, the way half his vehicle mode (and his Combiner peg) just hangs off the robot's butt, the fact that he's the shrimp of the bunch despite several reasons why he oughta be the biggest, the part where a "hover tank" is just a boring angular lump with turrets... these are all issues with the original mold. But on top of all that, they retooled TwinTwist with this nice pleasant expression, yet his bio describes him as a ruthless, bloodthirsty violence machine! A far cry from the beautifully expressive sneer of Impactor, that's for sure.
Oh, and his action-feature weapon's a dud, too. I respect that it gives his name the slightest bit of meaning, but on mine instead of spinning or even "twisting" the drills just sort of ratchet a quarter-turn with each press of the button. Theoretically it's supposed to mount atop the turret, but with that configuration the drills don't even clear the gun barrels, let alone the front of the tank! I prefer to flip out one of his robot fists and mount the weapon sideways. I don't want to come down too hard on poor Twisty; they can't all be winners. And I'll say this for him: he makes a fine leg for the combined #Ruination ! @transformersofficial @hasbro #transformerstoys#maccadam#bricksnclix#toyphotography#photoygraphy#toycrewbuddies#biggayspacerobots#transformersnotcisformers#latergram#toycollection
#WreckNRule ! #Impactor gets the spotlight in day two of the #Transformers fandom's #Wreckers Week, and I just happen to have the only toy of the character that's ever been sold at retail. In the #Generations#FallofCybertron toyline, #Hasbro retooled the five #Combaticons (#Decepticons ) into #Autobots (specifically, Wreckers) and gave them new weapons. The Combaticons are a #Combiner team—the first that had gotten toys in a while, I think, this being a while before the glut of Combiner Wars. They form #Bruticus , and so this set of five Wreckers is a team that forms a new Combiner character, #Ruination .
Impactor here is a retool of #Onslaught , and serves the same leader/torso role. It's not a great toy; it focuses on its function as a torso to the detriment of both the robot and vehicle modes. The weapon Onslaught came with (in Impactor's left hand, here) is supposed to peg on to the top of the vehicle mode as a... missile... thingie? But it looks pretty dumb, it tends to point at the ground, and even if you shave down the pegs on the forearms (as I did) the holes on the weapon are very prone to stress fractures. It looks somewhat less dumb with the addition of Impactor's new weapon, I suppose.
I love the colors of this use of the mold, though—orange & dark blueish-purple, with light-blue highlights? Oh HECK yes. I also dig how the new weapon they gave Impactor fits over his hand to approximate the comics' character's trademark harpoon arm. Impactor's a fascinating character in the fiction, but this post is too long already, and I'd only be paraphrasing the #TFWiki entry anyway. More Transformers tomorrow! @transformersofficial @hasbro #transformerstoys#maccadam#bricksnclix#toyphotography#photoygraphy#toycrewbuddies#biggayspacerobots#transformersnotcisformers#latergram#nofilter#nofilterneeded#wreckweek
#WreckNRule ! Here's #Springer from the #Transformers#Generations#Thrilling30 line. The fandom has declared it #WreckWeek , celebrating a certain die-hard rough-and-tumble subset of the #Autobot faction. If Optimus Prime is Superman & the other better-known #Autobots are the Justice League, the #Wreckers are the Suicide Squad (or at least the Outsiders). I'm just in under the wire for the day one prompt: Classic Marvel (UK) Wreckers. I'm not too familiar with these areas of the Transformers fiction, beyond what I read on #TFWiki , but Springer's one of the characters most associated with the group.
I gotta say, this figure's pretty neat. It was a 2013 release, one of the last I bought before my toy budget went back to mostly HeroClix (...five years ago?!). As a remake of one of the original #TripleChanger Transformers, Springer turns into both a helicopter AND a Mad Max-esque armored car with roof-mounted pressure-launching missiles (in this mode, his rotors/sword mount on the undercarriage). This toy design does a nice job balancing the G1 aesthetic with his more modern depiction in comics like the fan-favorite "Last Stand of the Wreckers," and in balancing the needs of the three modes, too. It doesn't peg together the best by today's standards, but at the time it was widely considered to be easily in the top-ten best Transformers figures #Hasbro had ever produced. It could be, still! @transformersofficial @hasbro #transformerstoys#maccadam#bricksnclix#toyphotography#photoygraphy#toycrewbuddies#latergram#biggayspacerobots#transformersnotcisformers
#HeroClix Cat Squad I assembled after my #DexStarr post last week. Adding #StreakyTheSuperCat , #Teekl (from #KlariontheWitchboy , who's cropped out; he's only there as Teekl's plus-one) and the generic #BlackCat from the 2016 #WorldsFinest set for a 198-point Animal theme team isn't an idea original to me, but this year brought two new 50-point felines to #DCComics clix: #Catman and #Cheetah , in the #HarleyQuinnandtheGothamGirls and #WonderWoman sets respectively. Then, since Dex-Starr's set #WarofLight is Golden Age (retired) anyway, add the two-point Kryptonian ATA on Streaky for 300 even.
Played it a couple times in some casual three-player games this weekend, and let me tell you, six is the magic number for me in that format nowadays. It lets me send three figures at each opponent, for fairness (two each, in a four-player match), for one thing. For another, this setup—three standard-size, three tiny-size—makes tempo simple. Big cats carry little cats turn 1, then turn 2 the big cats clear while the little cats take actions; alternate from there.
Dex-Starr was my standout in both matches. You were right, @quantumexplosiondynamo, he holds up—especially if you can get him into melee and keep him there! Catman and Streaky both performed very well, as expected, and of course KlarTeekl are well known as a power duo. Cheetah took an early dive both times, though. This is the "better" of the two from that set—the one with the #LegionofDoom keyword—but she's still not "good" (and my dice didn't help her one bit). The Black Cat didn't get much done, but it's really only there to keep Catman's "six of us" trait active without forcing me to immediately drop Teekl.
All in all, a fun team I hope to use again, and a real lesson to myself in how to build a force for the casual multiplayer games I play most Saturdays!
#HeroClix#ArkhamAsylum#016 : #Batman (aka #BatmanBeyond )! #TerryMcGinnis , star of the beloved & improbably excellent 1999 TV cartoon about an aged Bruce Wayne training a young protege in a dystopian cyberpunk future, has technically never had a HeroClix figure—the back of the card gives this Batman's real name as "unknown"! He skated into 'clix after nearly a decade of waiting through a technicality: a one-page cameo in the "real" DCU, during some dimension-hopping business in the Batman/Superman book of the 2000s. (Dunno why the fifty-plus issues of pretty-decent comics based on the animated series didn't count…) This is another one taken years ago on iPhone 4, which I had to Instagram-process to a fare-thee-well to make it even barely acceptable by my current standards (swipe all the way right if you want to see the 'before'). 😅 I dug it out because I made an arbitrary promise to myself that I wouldn't post anything on this account I didn't create myself, and otherwise I'd have posted a pic of the #BatmanTheAnimatedSeries HeroClix set announced today, with a zoom-in on the box art confirming a Batman Beyond subtheme, and then that meme about "unfollow me now, this is going to be the only thing I post about for weeks, I've wanted this for years, WTF." Old Bruce Wayne gets his own figure this time! I'm gonna get at least a brick... if they confirm Static (and... dare I hope, Gear?), I'll buy upwards of a case! @wizkidsgames @necaofficial #clixstagram#tabletopgaming#tabletopgames#wizkidsgaming#wizkidsgames#weareheroclix#bricksnclix#toyphotography#photoygraphy#toycrewbuddies#littleplasticpeople#macro#latergram#dcanimateduniverse#dcau#neogotham
#HeroClix#ThrowbackThursday : #Dexstarr of the #RedLantern Corps! Panels from the #DCComics origin of this good kitty are making the rounds on Twitter, and I've been talking red-clix-on-green-backgrounds the past few days, as #Christmas wraps up. So it only seemed right to dig out the photo I took of the figure from the 2014 #WarofLight#HeroClixOrganizedPlay event cycle! Due to vagaries of my personal life, that might be the period of HeroClix I look back on most fondly. War of Light was a great event and a great set, with all these weird candy-colored creatures I'd barely even heard of before (pity about the whole Entity thing). Then the game entered a solid year-plus of "I hope you like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man A LOT"... anyway.
As for Dex-Starr the character, I don't need to tell you why a housecat with magic rage powers who flies through space fighting Green Lanterns is awesome. They even put him in the new Justice League cartoon, where he teams up with Batman to fight Lobo (I am not making that up; it's pretty great). You may also observe that, where most Lanterns wear their rings on a forelimb, Dex-Starr's is actually around his tail.
This photo was taken with an iPhone 4, and I definitely hadn't mastered the art of getting the thing to focus on the HeroClix *figure* rather than the dial. Still, I've learned a lot about editing photos in Instagram since then! Opening stats on this little guy are still solid, too; I bet he'd hold up in today's game… 🤔 #redlanterncorps#dexstar#kitty @wizkidsgames @necaofficial #clixstagram#tabletopgaming#tabletopgames#wizkidsgaming#wizkidsgames#weareheroclix#bricksnclix#toyphotography#photoygraphy#toycrewbuddies#littleplasticpeople#macro#latergram
