Taking a look at shoulder impingment tonight to kick off the next series of posts. Shoulder impingment is a fairly common condition where the tendons in the rotator cuff can become 🗜 trapped or pinched during certain shoulder movements causing pain and discomfort.
.
So how does this happen? While direct trauma can cause this condition, we more often see it as a combination of factors of 🏊 repetitive overhead movements, anatomy of the shoulder, and weakness in the rotator cuff. All of these factors combined over time can lead to inflammation of rotator cuff tendons or subacromial bursa.
.
According to recent studies we all have a shoulder impingment of some kind, and in certain cases, some become more sensitized than others. Why this is? 🤔 We are not entirely sure, but we think that it's when the impingement becomes excessive and repetitive that problems arise.
.
And there seems to be a role in the ⚖ balance between the rotator cuff and deltoid to maintain the humeral head centered in the shoulder joint. When imbalances occur due to rotator cuff weakness, the impingment can become excessive and set off the pain signals.
.
Some things to keep mind: 💭 the shoulder has the most degrees of freedom of any joint, and because of that, it has a high need for stability as well. All the more reason taking time to 💪 strengthen the rotator cuff is important for the overall health of the shoulder.

Kinesiology tape is another sports and injury device that has appeared on the market in great force over the last few years, but what is it and what is it supposed to do? 🤔🤔The answer is actually quite different from what most people would expect!😳The theory behind kinesiology taping is that the tape (when applied correctly) gently lifts the layer of skin and tissue beneath that covers an underlying muscle so that blood and other body fluids can have an increased free motion in and around that muscle. 💪🏾As research has shown greater blood flow to an area can decrease pain, keep a joint or muscle mobile (warm), and improve recovery time. ✅📚This is quite the opposite to the traditional method of taping designed to brace, restrict motion to an area, and provide support to a joint and/or muscle. 🙌🏾Kinesiology tape takes the opposite approach, it is applied on top of an injured/strained area to provide stabilization, but the muscle or tendon is never encircled with a ring of tape. 🚫As movement of the affected area occurs, the tape, skin and fascia overlying the muscle/tendon move, pulling it in an opposite direction to the muscle, thus, making space for lymphatic fluid to move around and clean up the inflamed tissue.👊🏾 The main functions of kinesiology tape are to

Kinesiology tape is very thin and breathable to the skin. 👍🏾The sticky side uses a water repellant medical grade adhesive.✅ 💦The tape can actually stay on for 3-4 days through sweating and showering. 💪🏾Waterproof tapes have also been created for use on hands and feet.

It is well known that low back pain (LBP) can have a negative impact on muscles of the low back and pelvic regions. However, very little research has examined the effects of LBP on gluteus maximus (GM) 🍑function and size.

Earlier this year, a study (see citation below) was published that examined this very topic and some interesting and maybe not so surprising results 📊were found.
.
Researchers 👩‍🔬compared females with a history of LBP to those without a history of LBP and found that cross-sectional area of GM was significantly smaller in the LBP group. Additionally, the number of back pain-related healthcare visits was found to be significantly correlated with GM cross-sectional area (smaller GM = more visits).
.
A major takeaway from this research may be that continuing to train the glutes while experiencing back pain and after the pain has resolved may be helpful in terms of getting out of pain and preventing the pain from returning. This cannot be said for sure, but the glutes are surely important to back health and keeping them strong 💪has no downside. In my clinical practice, I have seen many LBP patients that report less pain after training their glutes.

Saya bakal berbagi info lagi nih, kali ini tentang Physical Fitness atau biasa disebut Kebuguran Jasmani.

JasmaniKebugaran jasmani ditinjau dari keterampilan memiliki komponen – komponen sebagai berikut :

1. Kecepatan
Kecepatan adalah kemampuan untuk menempuh jarak tertentu dalam waktu yang sesingkat-singkatnya (suharjana, 2013).
Exercise: Sprint(lari cepat), interval training, uphill

2. Daya Ledak
Daya ledak (power) merupakan kombinasi antara kecepatan dan kekuatan (Suharjana, 2013). Dari pernyataan di atas dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa daya ledak (power) merupakan kemampuan otot untuk melakukan gerakan secara cepat dan bertenaga.
Exercise: Melompat, menendang, lompat jongkok, double leg bound

3. Keseimbangan
Keseimbangan tubuh merupakan kemampuan untuk mempertahankan sikap tubuh yang tepat saat melakukan gerakan atau saat berdiri (Suharjana, 2013).
Exercise: Leg Swing

4. Kelincahan
kelincahan adalah kemampuan gerak memindahkan tubuh untuk merubah arah dengan cepat dan tepat (Suharjana, 2013).
Exercise: zigzag run, boomerang run, shuttle run

5. Koordinasi
Kordinasi adalah perpaduan beberapa unsur gerak dengan melibatkan gerak tangan dan mata untuk hasil gerak uang maksimal dan efisien (Suharjana, 2013).
Exercise: game exercise

6. Kekuatan
Menurut Suharjana (2013) kekuatan merupakan kemampuan sekelompok otot untuk melawan beban dalam satu usaha.
Exercise: Push Up, Sit Up, Back Lift

7. Daya Tahan Otot
Daya tahan otot merupakan kemampuan otot untuk mengatasi beban maksimal secara terus menerus (suharjana, 2013).
Exercise: Jogging, Berenang, Bersepeda, Lari narathon

Hello Bro Sist, Salam Fisioterapi !!!, Saya bakal berbagi info lagi nih, kali ini tentang Physical Fitness atau biasa disebut Kebuguran Jasmani. JasmaniKebugaran jasmani ditinjau dari keterampilan memiliki komponen – komponen sebagai berikut : 1. Kecepatan Kecepatan adalah kemampuan untuk menempuh jarak tertentu dalam waktu yang sesingkat-singkatnya (suharjana, 2013). Exercise: Sprint(lari cepat), interval training, uphill 2. Daya Ledak Daya ledak (power) merupakan kombinasi antara kecepatan dan kekuatan (Suharjana, 2013). Dari pernyataan di atas dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa daya ledak (power) merupakan kemampuan otot untuk melakukan gerakan secara cepat dan bertenaga. Exercise: Melompat, menendang, lompat jongkok, double leg bound 3. Keseimbangan Keseimbangan tubuh merupakan kemampuan untuk mempertahankan sikap tubuh yang tepat saat melakukan gerakan atau saat berdiri (Suharjana, 2013). Exercise: Leg Swing 4. Kelincahan kelincahan adalah kemampuan gerak memindahkan tubuh untuk merubah arah dengan cepat dan tepat (Suharjana, 2013). Exercise: zigzag run, boomerang run, shuttle run 5. Koordinasi Kordinasi adalah perpaduan beberapa unsur gerak dengan melibatkan gerak tangan dan mata untuk hasil gerak uang maksimal dan efisien (Suharjana, 2013). Exercise: game exercise 6. Kekuatan Menurut Suharjana (2013) kekuatan merupakan kemampuan sekelompok otot untuk melawan beban dalam satu usaha. Exercise: Push Up, Sit Up, Back Lift 7. Daya Tahan Otot Daya tahan otot merupakan kemampuan otot untuk mengatasi beban maksimal secara terus menerus (suharjana, 2013). 🚨 CORRECTING LOWER BACK PAIN IN DEADLIFTS [Lat Activation] 🚨

One of the most important rules in a deadlift is to ensure that the barbell stays close to the body throughout the entire movement (on the way up and down) to keep the load on the correct areas of the body.

A common mistake is not properly engaging the latissimus dorsi (muscles on the back) which is responsible for pulling the barbell in towards the body and removing slack from the barbell. The result of not having activating your lats usually leads to the barbell being too far forward (away from the body) and places an unnecessary amount of pressure on your lower back.

Lack of lat activation in deadlifts can lead to:
🔥 Chronic lower back pain and more prone to herniations
💣 Excessive rounding of the lumbar spine and poor weight distribution
💥 Not properly removing the slack from the barbell

To properly learn how to activate your lats during a deadlift, follow the steps below:
1️⃣ Wrap an exercise band around a stationary object and loop it over a barbell
2️⃣ Stand away from the stationary object until there is light/moderate tension on the barbell
3️⃣ Perform the deadlift while actively pulling the barbell in towards the body.

Another cue that could help activate the lats for some lifters is to imagine bringing the barbell to the hips oppose to bringing the hips to the barbell. This drill can be done before a deadlift session to help build proper motor pattern and activate muscles to ensure everything is working correctly. It can also be done unloaded (with just a PVC pipe) or loaded (barbell with plates).

🗝If you run or are on your feet all day, chances are that the tissues of your lower leg will become brutally tight and in need of some serious love.
🗝The musculature extending from your knee to your ankle along the inside of your shin—specifically the soleus, tibialis posterior, and gastrocnemius—are responsible for providing support to your arch of your foot. When these muscles become tight and locked up, people start to collapse through the arch, placing stress on the tissues upstream.
🗝To restore good positions and normalize these tissues, take a ball and smash it into the inside of your shinbone, working from the base of your knee down to your ankle bone.
1️⃣Pin a lacrosse ball on the inside of your shin and apply downward pressure with both hands.
2️⃣Still applying downward pressure, spin the lacrosse ball into your leg to take up the skin and soft tissue slack, and move your foot around in all directions.

Ouch. Sciatic nerve impingement is not fun. There are multiple reasons why this can occur. First line of defense is stretching your piriformis muscle. The sciatic nerve pierces through this deep muscle and external rotator of the hip.
To stretch piriformis lie on your back with the knees bent. Cross your ankle over your knee. Rock your pelvis  gently from side to side in this position. When you want a deeper stretch pull the legs up towards you and reach between the knees as you pull back and feel the buttock stretch. Stay for one minute then repeat other side. 
See a physiotherapist for assessment and treatment when pain and dysfunction persist. #myofascialrelease #physiotherapy

Kinesiology tape is another sports and injury device that has appeared on the market in great force over the last few years, but what is it and what is it supposed to do? 🤔🤔The answer is actually quite different from what most people would expect!😳The theory behind kinesiology taping is that the tape (when applied correctly) gently lifts the layer of skin and tissue beneath that covers an underlying muscle so that blood and other body fluids can have an increased free motion in and around that muscle. 💪🏾As research has shown greater blood flow to an area can decrease pain, keep a joint or muscle mobile (warm), and improve recovery time. ✅📚This is quite the opposite to the traditional method of taping designed to brace, restrict motion to an area, and provide support to a joint and/or muscle. 🙌🏾Kinesiology tape takes the opposite approach, it is applied on top of an injured/strained area to provide stabilization, but the muscle or tendon is never encircled with a ring of tape. 🚫As movement of the affected area occurs, the tape, skin and fascia overlying the muscle/tendon move, pulling it in an opposite direction to the muscle, thus, making space for lymphatic fluid to move around and clean up the inflamed tissue.👊🏾 The main functions of kinesiology tape are to

Kinesiology tape is another sports and injury device that has appeared on the market in great force over the last few years, but what is it and what is it supposed to do? 🤔🤔The answer is actually quite different from what most people would expect!😳The theory behind kinesiology taping is that the tape (when applied correctly) gently lifts the layer of skin and tissue beneath that covers an underlying muscle so that blood and other body fluids can have an increased free motion in and around that muscle. 💪🏾As research has shown greater blood flow to an area can decrease pain, keep a joint or muscle mobile (warm), and improve recovery time. ✅📚This is quite the opposite to the traditional method of taping designed to brace, restrict motion to an area, and provide support to a joint and/or muscle. 🙌🏾Kinesiology tape takes the opposite approach, it is applied on top of an injured/strained area to provide stabilization, but the muscle or tendon is never encircled with a ring of tape. 🚫As movement of the affected area occurs, the tape, skin and fascia overlying the muscle/tendon move, pulling it in an opposite direction to the muscle, thus, making space for lymphatic fluid to move around and clean up the inflamed tissue.👊🏾 The main functions of kinesiology tape are to 1️⃣Support the muscle 2️⃣Remove congestion of bodily fluid flow 3️⃣Activate the endogenous analgesic system (pain relief) 4️⃣Joint problem correction . The KiSS Kasambya Team have recently been working with a centre in Mityana which supports disabled children to get both occupational therapy and physiotherapy for free! Through working with the centre KiSS are able to support even more disabled children! Last Friday Irene took Joseph, Charlotte and Phiona down to the centre for assessment to set up further therapy which will impact their lives greatly. The KiSS Kasambya team have seen this through another child supported by KiSS, Mutumba, who was referred to the clinic after being paralysed following an accident in January and now with the help of physiotherapy and a wheelchair is able to return to school! Great way to break up a morning of admin by fitting in a quick run.

One of the perks of my job is that 90% of the time I'm up and moving with patients however there are times when I just can't avoid having to sit down and crack on with the to do list.

Sitting has been proven to be one of the biggest predictors of poor health across multiple spectrums including our cardiac, metabolic and musculoskeletal systems. Getting up to move is vital, even if it's just for a few minutes every hour!

We are back to counting your Exercising mistakes!
And the Mistake #2 you may be doing while exercising is the following:
DOING ISOLATED EXERCISES

Doing isolated exercises- meaning focusing on one muscle at a time- (like bicep curls and tricep extensions) will NOT help you build lean muscle and get toned & fit.
These exercises do very little to increase your metabolism, and here is the reason why:
In order to boost your metabolism, your heart rate has to be raised to a certain level.  But when you’re only working ONE muscle at a time, it’s virtually impossible to recruit enough muscle fibers to increase your heart rate significantly, so you’ll never be able to spike your metabolism or maximize your calorie burn.
If you want to slim down and tone up fast, you need to do exercises that stimulate as many muscles as possible at the same time.
We will be posting these exercises for you in the following days this week, so that you start practicing them in case your goal is to burn calories and get fit, and increasing the activity of your metabolism.

TRX Standing Body Crunch , para mí uno de los mejores ejercicios para trabajar el abdomen, me encanta como puedes localizarlo y es bastante técnico! 💪🏻😃
▶️Músculos implicados: por supuesto toda la "faja" abdominal (recto, oblicuo,transverso).
▶️Músculos "secundarios", los llamo así ya que debemos centrar el trabajo en la zona abdominal: tríceps, dorsal ancho, deltoides, glúteo (ya que recomiendo activarlo para mantener mejor la postura sin que se cree un arco en la zona lumbar. ⚠️ IMPORTANTE: realizar una pequeña retroversión de cadera para mantener la zona lumbar recta, no forzar mucho el estiramiento hacia delante al principio hasta que no cojamos fuerza suficiente, y antes cualquier molestia en la zona lumbar no practicarlo.

Your intervertebral discs are NOT like jelly donuts. Have you ever seen a jelly donut squat 1000lbs, dunk a basketball, or run 25 miles per hour? Me neither.

Did you know that up to 66% of lumbar disc herniations, of any variety, can actually demonstrate healing with conservative treatment? In fact, the worse the herniation, the better the spontaneous regression might be!

However, imaging does not necessarily need to show reabsorption of the disc for symptoms to improve. Research also suggests that specific loading through exercise may have the potential to impart healing or regeneration of the intervertebral disc.

Surgery has its place, but understand that your body is resilient, you often CAN get better with time, and you can never go wrong getting strong through exercise
