Artner Carnuntum Pinot Noir Reserve 2009. 100% Pinot Noir from 12 year vines planted on clay-loess based soils north of the little village of Göttlesbrunn. Famous for its BBQ and Zweigelt, the little town is home to a community of winemakers who focus on food-friendly red wines and smooth easy drinking whites. Hans Artner, a third generation winemaker, on the other hand, makes some of the most serious red and sweet wines in Austria. This certified-organic Pinot stands at the apex, with a careful balance of black fruits, herbs, cacao, cream, and autumn leaves. A near perfect vintage produced a rich and velvety tannic structure. Perfect with a plate of homemade veal goulash.
