Come dye with me ! 😊
I'm so very excited to announce my first natural dye workshop to be held at @sewmakecreate in August!
Introduction to Natural Dyes is focused on teaching you a fun and enjoyable way to extract colour from nature so you can go home with the confidence and desire to explore this sustainable practice further.
The workshop is for beginners so you don't need to have any experience. I will teach you what you need to know to do it at home. Come and have some natural fun, over some simmering bubbling dyepots with me. You will go home with your beautifully handdyed fabric samples to use for creative projects and a silk scarf. Dyed by you. 😮
So happy to be sharing my passion for this beautiful craft. Please see the link in my bio for more details and for bookings. I have kept it as an intimate workshop so you can have my full attention.
We will be using mainly fresh botanicals although I'm also excited to also show you some other tricks ! (indigo is not included). Can't wait it will be so much fun !
Beautiful red poppy petals ❤️ flower hoarding went a little overboard possibly. my grandmother saved these for me before the heavy rain would pull them all off the plant anyway. and then i put each one individually onto cloth to dry. hold your thumbs, i am a little worried they might become moldy... if not, they will also be present at next sunday's workshop! .
printed like a madwoman last night 🌿🤓💆🏽
this silk scarf is printed with weld, which grows nearby ✨ indigo class has been in the preparation phases but today we are dyeing so stay tuned for more blue things 💙
All my vegans know what's up! Plant power is no joke.. all this iron got me feeling like iron man lol. Become a better version of yourself, the time is now to evolve with plants! 🔹Hit that heart button if you can relate! 🚀
🌸Erbe selvatiche e acqua di S. Giovanni. 🌿
Tu cosa farai questo weekend magico? ✨✨⭐
Di magia e di erbe selvatiche, buon weekend a tutti! .
Ahh my heart is as light as this butterfly... a sweet day. I watched my girls squeal and giggle as they played in the warm summer rain. Feet splashing, mouths open to catch the drops. I have felt so much pressure recently to create- to get all the ideas out of my head onto paper. A general mood of impatience and pressure. This morning's simple joy was the perfect reminder to bring me back to my center. In fact I didn't make a thing today:) this lovely cyanotype from awhile back catches the mood perfect though✨#joyfulmoment
These dudes are growing like crazy! It makes my heart so happy to see new little buds and leaves where there once were none, witnessing them reaching for the light and becoming more wild and untamed with every week that passes. #indoorjungle#plantsaremagic#ilovemyjob
Garden of Delights Workshop is back this summer! Dyeing with flowers, avocado pits and onion skins ✨
Saturday 7/22/17 from 1pm-6pm at 119 Ingraham St. (Morgan L train)
This will be the last studio workshop until October, as I'll be in Europe August & September. So come to this celebration of a very delightful garden and learn about using natural dyes! 🔮
We will go through the history of natural dyeing, including mordants. We will dye different blanks with flowers, onion skins, and avocado pits and skins. We will cover heat dye VS solar dye, bundle dyeing VS dip dyeing and mordants and modifiers.
Natural sources create beautiful colors. Avocado pits and skins colorize fabric into pink. Onion skins give orange/golden to brown/pink hues. And flowers have endless possibilities (pink, violet, yellow...)
We will have 3 vats to colorize fabric. Every participant will receive: 1 silk bandana, 1 silk scarf, 2 cotton bandanas, 1 natural dyes zine. Also encouraged to bring other items that you might want to dye.
We will also have drinks and snacks. Link in bio 🍃
After much researching & coordinating, was able to go to an onion farm/distributor yesterday to collect their onion skins.
After seeing me try to collect them with my hands, a girl called Eva came with a shovel and broom and offered to help. She asked what I wanted them for, and then what other things she could use to dye. She said she'd try herself, hopefully another convert!
It has been raining since last night which is fantastic since it has been boiling hot here and dry as a desert. I sliced up my foot when I stepped back onto a roll of fencing while fending off my jerk of a rooster while simultaneously trying to hold on to a pair of male ducks that insist on mating every single hen I have at the same time. Which just results in them fighting with each other while standing on the poor hen. If anything, farm life is never boring. I went to make some comfrey salve to repair my wounds and realized I was out of beeswax. My local herb shop had the beeswax I needed and a amazing Appalachian summer tea blend that makes you feel like you are drinking a bit of sunshine. My house smells fantastic as lavender and comfrey simmer over low heat on the stove. It's the first bit of medicine making I have done since I started feeling unwell. So today, it's tea, chocolate and bit of salve making. Plus pulling out like ten rows of knitting since I read my pattern wrong.
It's been such a big week it feels good to take a breath. I am so happy to have finished my #floweressence thesis and certification ✨ along with making art I will now begin seeing clients and working with this amazing botanical medicine. Plus sun prints and making the essences go hand in hand- magical time spent in the garden. #plantsaremagic
This gorgeous indie magazine 'Plants are magic' by @rebeccadesnos is the perfect excuse for an extra break in this hot weather, while sipping some refreshing elderflower lemonade... 🍋 Keep it cool, guys! #plantsaremagic#holisticliving
🌸Semplicità, margherita! 🌸
Di semplicità e bellezza, buona giornata e buona vita a voi! 🌸
Right now I'm dyeing some gifts for an unsuspecting recipient. I've got two items in the pot with some turmeric fresh and ground and also infused with fresh marigolds and lemon tea tree. The scent is beautiful, sweet aromatic turmeric with that touch of lemon.
I love being able to add and change ingredients not only to try new ideas but also to feed my creative urge.
The marigolds and lemon tea tree are from my own garden and the lemon tea tree is native to Australia. When I moved into my house I was quoted $3k for a landscaper to dig a garden bed and plant a row of murraya along the fence. I said no I'll do it myself. I paid $100 to get two burly men to loosen up the garden bed for me and I went and chose small Australian trees to plant along the fence. I have a lovely natural extended fence line now above the wooden fence and I dont feel like I am penned in by Murraya which would have been a clipping nightmare for me as I have a small backyard.
Moral - always be prepared to follow your ideas, dreams and passions , you might never know when and where they will come to fruition but you will always be happy. 😊
I just finished watching 'What The Health', a documentary that looks into why as a nation we are so sick. Disturbing to know that health organizations such as @susangkomen @american_heart_association @assoc.diabetes are ALL sponsored by meat and dairy companies. The exact products that are making us sick and cause cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Go plant based and change your life. GO VEGAN!!! #theveganbrit
Since I needed to add more tasks to my life, I made a last minute decision to add another healing garden, which also involves me removing a row of boxwoods... but I got to make a trip to the greatest greenhouse in life.
Give me all the plant medicine 🌿
