Do you use ointments, creams or lotions on your baby’s skin? Lotions are mostly made of water with not much oil, so they can actually dry skin out. Whereas ointments are mostly oil which can make them difficult to spread over a larger area. Happily, creams are usually around half-and-half which make them great for sealing in the moisture for a cloud-like softness for their whole bodies. #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
*Raising our little ones so that their stars can shine brightly* I feel so awed at the idea that I am the person who, probably more than any other in this world, can help my kids to reach their potential. I hope I’ll always be around to support and lift them up, no matter what they do. ❤️❤️❤️ #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
Is sunscreen part of your baby sun care kit?
There have been lots of worrying stories in the press about horrible reactions against the chemicals in sunscreen. The latest story with pictures of a three year old absolutely broke our hearts.
However, be assured that if you stick to a few simple guidelines, this is unlikely to happen to you.
First, physical sunscreens (like good old fashioned zinc) is usually the best for young skin. Secondly, doing a patch test on your baby for any new sunscreen (even zinc ones) is advisable. Thirdly, try not to rely on sunscreen as your main form of sun protection - clothing and other types of barrier protection are best.
Easy peasy! ☀️☀️☀️
Is the relationship between brothers and sisters potentially the most special one? Someone you love unconditionally, who understands exactly where you come from. Someone to create in-jokes with and someone who can really get your goat, like no other. Here’s to one of the best lifelong connections ever! #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
*Ewww* Before becoming a mum, I would have balked at most of the “gross” things that all parents do when looking after their babies. Sniff their nappy to check for poo? Pulled out a bogey? Wipe yoghurt from their mouth with my fingers? Yup, all of those things. What are the yuckiest things you’ve done as a parent? #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
*Petal-soft skin* Did you know that the advice these days is not to be too quick to wash the vernix (the waxy white stuff) off a newborn’s skin? Its protective qualities can continue after birth by being a barrier against outside germs. Plus it’s a great skin moisturiser to keep that baby skin soft and kissable 😘😘😘 #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
Sometimes you (and this black bear) just want to “Natpark and chill.” 😎
But, when visiting @greatsmokynps or any park, remember to be chill and always stay at least 100 yards away from any bear you might encounter.

*Cuddling your youngest one* My little one is just on the cusp of being slightly too big to scoop up and walk around with, whilst giving her a big full-bodied hug. She’s all legs and poky elbows now. The day is coming soon when, like my eldest, she’ll wriggle away from me after only a few seconds of cuddles. But for now, she’s still my sweet, squashy bundle. #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
*Behind the scenes* I don’t often do these kinds of posts but I wanted to introduce my awesome sister, Natalie. She is one of the main people behind musluv, and she has worked tirelessly (often through the night) to get our Kickstarter campaign up and running. Whenever I’m feeling like I am not sure which direction to go in, she’s the one I turn to and she’s always been there for me, with good advice. Love you, sister ❤️*end of soppiness* #musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
*Baby wearing* 👶Do you like “wearing” your baby? In the book, The Artificial Ape, a pre-historian says that our increased brain size was made possible by the invention of the baby sling, because it meant that babies had time to develop mentally rather than having to quickly develop physically. How cool is that? #musluv#crowdfunding#kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect
We've been using the new @musluv wrap lately and we completely love it! I actually had no idea that every day muslin wraps didn't protect against harmful UV rays, but @musluv wraps have a UPF50+ rating 🙌🏼 This is the perfect accessory for your babies, especially as we are coming into the summer months!! It's also great on these cooler overcast spring/autumn days when it's easy to forget that there's still UV rays! @musluv have launched their campaign today and I urge you to go check it out and protect our babies' skin this summer! Plus they have an early bird special running for the first 100 orders 🙌🏼#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect @joolzaus #myjoolz#joolzaus#joolzgeo2
On the eve of our Kickstarter launch, we’re letting ourselves be a little bit proud of having got this far, with a product we believe in wholeheartedly.
Our aim was to come up with a thoughtfully-designed product that would really help parents everyday, so it had to be something that was useful in lots of ways, not just one or two.
That’s why we made sure it can be used in the car 🚘during feeding🍼, and at nap 😴and play times. 🤹♀️⛱ That said, we haven’t thought of all the ways it can be used ourselves! Our customers tell us they have used it as a cover for an airline bassinet,✈️, tent tied between two prams⛺️, a beach towel🏝, a tummy time roll 👶and even a picnic rug🍌! How would you use yours?
☀️Barrier protection☀️Did you know that sun care experts recommend that “barrier” protection (such as clothes and hats) are the best types of sun protection and should be used as the first line of defence? Sunscreens definitely have their place in your sun protection kit, but they're really the last line of defence against UV, especially for babies. What kinds of sun protection do you favour to keep your little one safe? #barrierprotection#musluv#Kickstarter#jointhemusluvmovement#pledgetoprotect#crowdfunding
Today I was asked what inspired the creation of musluv. And I remembered a story from when Alex, my eldest, was still a teeny baby.
We were on the open level of a car park at the top of a shopping centre. It was one of those car parks where there was absolutely no shade and the sun felt roasting and unrelenting. And of course we were parked in the very far corner of the car park - it seemed like miles away from the entrance.
I remember distinctly that feeling of being stuck and confused. Should I put him in the pram and walk over, as normal? But it felt so exposed! Should we get back into the car and drive up to the entrance?
In the end, I half-ran across the tarmac with baby Alex in my arms, feeling somewhat silly and embarrassed.
And that’s exactly why I wanted to create a really flexible baby sun care solution that would help parents feel free and happy in any outdoor situation.
As a parent, have you ever felt stuck like this?

*😬* We are only 1 week away from our Kickstarter launch - eek!
So what’s our campaign all about?
We want to spread the message that ordinary muslin swaddles are not a good choice for covering your pram.
We understand why parents do it (and, yep, we did it ourselves). Standard muslin wraps are convenient and there’s always one at your fingertips, ready to mop up milky spit-ups or use as a swaddle when it’s nap-time. And they fit really easily into your nappy bag. So, it’s the easiest thing in the world to take one out and clip it onto the pram when your baby needs a little shading from the sun.
But ordinary muslin covers don’t provide any protection against the sun. They let most of the UV rays go right through to where your baby is sitting in the pram. And that's worrying, given the sun is really harsh in Australia, and baby skin is particularly vulnerable to it.☀️👶 Our campaign is about helping parents through this problem and giving them a simple and convenient solution, for their peace of mind.
We'll be letting everyone know some more details of our special early bird🕊 pricing later this week 🙂

*Seed the Change* Did you know that for every musluv sun protection baby cover we sell, we pay for a new tree to be planted in the world? We do this because we believe in trying to protect ALL aspects of our babies' futures. And the more trees we plant, the more we can contribute to offsetting climate change. Simples! 🌲🌳🌴🌱🌿☘️🍀🍃
Are your babies little bookworms? Mine won't go anywhere without a book or two tucked away in the car or the day pack. Even when they were babies and they used to just chomp down on those big board picture books with their gums! #bookworms
September 18, 1870: An expedition happened upon, and named, the world’s most famous geyser—Old Faithful. There are only about 1,000 geysers worldwide, about half of which are found in @Yellowstonenps. Just another exciting natural site to be explored when you #FindYourPark . #EncuentraTuParque

At first glance, what we at musluv are all about is protecting soft baby skin against our harsh Australian sun. And that is certainly true, but... that's not the whole story, not at all.
When I first had my son Alex, I went through the same kinds of up-and-down emotions that most new parents go through.
True love, deep exhaustion, rattiness, joy, misery - the whole works.
The one thing that helped me navigate these extremes of emotion was getting out of the house and talking to other grown-up people. Even the simplest of interactions with the outside world made me feel like I was a real human being again, not just one who was at the beck and call of this small, dribbly, funny, beautiful baby.
But the one emotion that didn't really go away was worry. I worried about all sorts of things, but a big one was whether I was properly taking care of my newborn.
I developed the musluv covers because I wanted to take away some of that worry for new parents. I wanted them to feel free to get out of the house and connect with people without the anxiety of wondering whether they were doing enough to protect their baby.
So what kinds of things worry you about your baby? And what helps you?
That feeling when you try to be fashionably late to the party, but you’re just late-late and all the good snacks are gone.

*Blowing raspberries* I think it's the funniest thing when babies start to blow raspberries😛. It helps with their speech and eating skills later on - a kind of work out for the lips and tongue. But most of all it's just delightful and almost impossible for me not to respond with a raspberry of my own!
