“To be everywhere is to be nowhere.” We must focus our efforts such that each day we move closer to our goals. If we spread ourselves too thin we lose the momentum we need to achieve the success we are capable of.

The last time I saw my sweet Nanny Belford (on my mama's side), she was staying at Kingston General Hospital a few months ago. Being the only family in town, I made a point to get dressed up and visit her everyday, because even though she couldn't remember much, I knew she'd remember our time together, if only until she fell asleep ❤ On my last visit, I wore this baby blue bandana around my neck and she went on about how she used to wear one just like it back in her day. She was always telling stories and always just as eager to hear mine. We lost our sweet Nanny on Monday morning. My heart ached as my mom spoke through her tears over the phone. I had made my peace and said my goodbyes to her, relieved that she was no longer in pain, but knowing she's no longer there to visit simply breaks my heart. Our Nanny was the kind you'd always get excited to see. The one who put her chocolate bars in the freezer and ask you if you wanted one 10 times in an hour. The one who tells you how beautiful and smart you are and how much she loves you, every time she sees you. The one who's fridge was covered in photos of her grandkids, right beside our height chart. She was simply the best, and I needed to get all of this out to start my healing. I've learned that it's okay to take a step back to simply feel. I've put work to the side, am still dabbling in my passions (they're keeping me sane) and plan to let myself just "be" while my heart takes time to heal. Friday is her celebration of life, and it also happens to be my birthday. I could be upset, but instead I choose to grateful. We celebrated her last birthday on September 3rd, so what better way to celebrate mine than by paying tribute to her life? 🙏 Rest in peace sweet Dorothy. You are my angel ❤
