Lisbon's vintage "quiosques de refresco," or refreshment kiosks, are as much a part of the city's drinking and dining scene as ginginha and pasteis de nata.
These ornate structures, once almost abandoned, are all over the city. They're unique combination of Art Nouveau and Moorish styles date back to the 19th century when they were built.
Conveniently located in prime spots all over Lisbon, surrounded by tables and chairs, they have a nostalgic air about them.
Most people are familiar with bar-hopping, but in how many can you go "kiosk-hopping"? 🍷🍸🍺🥃☕
Rua Nova do Carvalho, otherwise known as the Pink Street!
This used to be one of the Lisbon’s seediest neighbourhoods. Now it's home to live music, burlesque and tapas bars. Trust me. I'm just early. 😊
Rua Nova do Carvalho was painted pink and the call girls moved out. The bohemian edginess and decadence on which Lisbon thrives remained. Live music venues, burlesque clubs and tapas bars have moved in, and Cais do Sodré now upstages Bairro Alto as Lisbon's most happening nightlife district.
I'm coming back when things are happing, after midnight.
Will I see you? 😉
