The situation in Yemen continues to spiral downhill. With the winter months rolling in, the temperature has declined to freezing levels.
We have launched our winter appeal to supply thick life saving blankets to help the mothers and fathers of Yemen’s 11.3 million children who cannot survive without humanitarian assistance.
Find out more about our winter appeal on our website: www.betacharitabletrust.org
In a country where a sitting congressman told a crowd that evolution and the Big Bang are “lies straight from the pit of hell,” where the chairman of a Senate environmental panel brought a snowball into the chamber as evidence that climate change is a hoax, where almost one in three citizens can’t name the vice president, it is beyond dispute that critical thinking has been abandoned as a cultural value.
Our failure as a society to connect the dots, to see that such anti-intellectualism comes with a huge price, could eventually be our downfall.
corporate interests encourage anti-intellectualism, conditioning Americans into conformity and passive acceptance of institutional dominance. They are the ones who stand to gain from the excessive fear and nationalism that result in militaristic foreign policy and absurdly high levels of military spending.
(You ever try to have an intelligent conversation in this country??)
Hardcore-poor #Chinese in #KualaLumpur are struggling to make a living while the myth prevails that those of the race in #Malaysia are all #rich .
While absolute #poverty is almost eradicated at 0.1% among the Chinese, there are many who earn below the minimum wage in the community.
#JalanPeel squatter, Tang Poh Mei, said she was earning RM1,500 a month making #cookies and rice #dumplings only because #ChineseNewYear was around the corner.
The 43-year-old said she earned less at other times of year. She supports a household of five people – her #husband , their two young #children , and her #mother -in-law.
Her husband offers freelance maintenance services and his income is uncertain.
She told The Malaysian Insight, "Our expenses are not that high because our family eats very simply. Some soup, eggs… that’s it.

Its wet out today, I can not wait until summer so I can get my flip-flops out. But saying this we should all feel greatful we have a warm roof over our heads, food pn the table. Many people in the UK are struggling to put food on the table, many are also on the streets sleeping rough. There is a song called "Streets of London" if you get a chance have a listen it is very touching.
Unfortunately, 1.1 million children in Australia are living in poverty and can't afford their back to school supplies. It makes me so sad because education is primordial to create resources for the challenges faced in life. @yoobiaustralia is here to change that!
Post a photo of you showing '5' ✋🏼 and using the tags #sharefive and @yoobiaustralia, and @yoobiaustralia will donate FIVE Yoobi items to children or classrooms in need. 🖐

Allah swt has allowed me to see 18 years old today, Alhamdulilah. I am supposed to say that I feel new or different. No, I feel the same as I did before. I am still that girl who will be be bold and speak for those whom have no voice. ✊🏾 I am a believer because Allah is sovereign and Islam is the Haqq. I support the women’s movements because equality and justice is a human right. I fight for sexual assault survivors because #metoo means I too have to reject the notion that victims are unworthy of telling their truth. I say #blacklivesmatter because brown skin doesn’t negate civil rights and black skin is not a target for your bullets or hate. I #standwithsyria and want #peaceforpalestine because Arab children should not wake up from the sound of drones destroying their schools. I support immigration because #nohumanisillegal . I speak against capitalism because #poverty is not inevitable. I wear hijab because covering is #MYchoice . I love all good people because #lovebeatshate .
I will stand against every form of oppression and crime against humanity until my last breath, by the permission of Allah swt and that is who I am. I’m endlessly grateful to Allah for opening so many doors for me by allowing me to reach 18 years old....♥️🤟🏾
During a recent vacation, I saw this Palestinian boy trying to keep warm. This is a scene from behind the Israli border wall in Bethlehem. The wall extends beyond the armistice line in numerous places. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for funding to [the Palestinian State] be cut because it "perpetuates the Palestinian problem." This is a thinly veiled version of the "solution to the Jewish question." Instead of Jewish people, Palestinians are being segregated by a physical wall.
Poverty isn’t always material... Poverty is being without the ability to change our ways by ourselves. It is knowing that created things cannot bring lasting fulfillment and that only in our “yes” to God and surrender to His will can we find our way out of spiritual poverty. Poverty, material and spiritual, helps us rely on God in everything so He can heal our brokenness and fill us with the riches of His grace.
