Abandoned the hook grip. I almost dropped 585 right before this using it and it pissed me right off. Hurt like hell too. So screw it. I gave it over 8 weeks. Maybe I'll go back to it again another time. But for now, #fuckhookgrip

Did a fun little tune up meet before  the Arnold today! Ended up going 8/9 with 502.5kg total (205/97.5/200), calculating to a 453 Wilks PR at 82.2kg BW. I took 1st place and best lifter overall! 🤩

I purposely didn’t put out my best numbers today cuz I’m saving it for the Arnold. I had my third attempt squat (210kg) up, but the bar unfortunately rolled forward up my back and I didn’t get the lift. The strength is there, it was just a technical mistake.

🤣Still have a lot of improvements that need to be made. I will probably never hit 225 lb on the bench, but definitely going for 405 lb on the squat and 500 lb on the deadlift under 160 lb bodyweight.

So after finding myself binging a few days ago when I was sick, bedbound and getting stressed that I’d overeat out of boredom(the irony😅) I started looking back on my wins and what I’ve been working on in the past few months of my fitness journey(something from the Pat Divilly talk at Fresh Resolution🙏) which included working on making my habits healthier in general and training for powerlifting, making sure to never miss a day or a set. Around these goals I’ve gone on a holiday, meals out with family and friends, weekends away and can’t forget the good Christmas celebrations to throw you off the health wagon(balance may have got the boot the odd day of Christmas👀) (which also shows that it’s never the right time and it’s never going to continue to be the ‘right time’ if it seems to be, on Monday🙊)

But anyways, here’s 3 things I’ve learnt on how to go about achieve your goals:
1. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Don’t expect for things to just fall into place in your day. Especially if you’re trying to do things out of your ordinary; they’re not going to naturally occur, you have to prioritize your day, week and schedule to get the necessary things done to reach your goal!

2. Swap one habit for a slightly different, but healthier habit in your life: eg ice cream for homemade whey protein ice cream. Or Netflix for 3 hours in bed vs an hour of reading before you get sleepy and drift off.

3. Stop looking for all the hacks. Sometimes it’s going to be hard, there’s going to be resistance, you’re going to have to push yourself, and the quicker you learn to own that, the quicker you’ll start reaching more of your goals.

I’m not landing myself with a serial ‘goal crushing’ brush here, but there’s been goals I’ve had, struggled to get first time, second time, etc, etc and finally reached them, and I think these of many things, are what help me achieve my goals(and might help someone.)💕💪
What everyone’s before and after ‘bulk physique updates’ seem to look like on instagram 😅😅*disclaimer-this is empty belly, structure tampered and tensing*🤙🤙 . So after finding myself binging a few days ago when I was sick, bedbound and getting stressed that I’d overeat out of boredom(the irony😅) I started looking back on my wins and what I’ve been working on in the past few months of my fitness journey(something from the Pat Divilly talk at Fresh Resolution🙏) which included working on making my habits healthier in general and training for powerlifting, making sure to never miss a day or a set. Around these goals I’ve gone on a holiday, meals out with family and friends, weekends away and can’t forget the good Christmas celebrations to throw you off the health wagon(balance may have got the boot the odd day of Christmas👀) (which also shows that it’s never the right time and it’s never going to continue to be the ‘right time’ if it seems to be, on Monday🙊) . Went 1/3 on Bench 143 and only got my 1st attempt. 2/3 for Deadlift 242 for 1st(shown) and 259 for 2nd(17lb meet PR) but unfortunately I don’t have a video for it.
All in all it was a still a good meet I just expected so much more out of myself but this only pushes me to work harder, push harder and actively work towards those goals. The experience was well worth it and I enjoyed sharing the platform with so many strong powerlifters😊💪🏻 #camppendletonopen

I’ve had hip mobility issues for quite some time now and have always had trouble with back squats since I would always get pain and discomfort in my hips.

Over break, I put extra emphasis on working my hip mobility, and it has allowed me to back squat to depth comfortably for the first time which is super exciting for me. Hoping I can start taking the weight back up with this new adjusted form. 🏋🏻‍♂️

Light and easy session today though; worked up to bench 6x4 (80kg / 176lbs), paused squat 2x4 (125kg / 276lbs), paused sumodeadlift 2x4 (140kg / 309lbs). All top sets RPE 7-8. Clips are final sets of deadlifts and squats.

Such a cool feeling to have my opening deadlift weight at this last meet be what my third attempt was at my first meet 4 months ago. That also helped me add 30kg (~60#) to my total. I'm telling you, trusting the process works. Following the program that's laid out for you and putting 100% into every workout (even on off days) will get you where you want to go!
