Yoga provides the space we need to pause and be aware of our thoughts and actions. It provides the clarity we need to live mindfully and abide in presence. Fear, anger and anxiety is almost always linked to being engaged in the past or the future. Without present-moment awareness these emotions can take over you on auto-pilot and in many many cases you’ll realize there truly ISNT an issue at hand. Only your mind fooling you to believe so. Recognize your surroundings, then decipher the difference between your reality and your thoughts. Brake the attachment to the voice in your head and always come back to the present. It is always there for you. ❤️

Ok ok. So I get it—-I get up early.  I’m receiving so many comments about how, why and how many of ‘you’ can do it like me.  First of all-Be a scientist-find what works for your body, we are all made differently- do not do ‘it’ like me-  DO YOU!! Please do not DO what I do or anyone else does if it puts you in harms risk.  I mean, to be honest- I really won’t do anything I don’t absolutely love doing. I am driven by passion-that is my alarm clock.  I do not wake up to a buzz, instead I wake up eager to practice and move inward spending some time with myself testing my limits and pushing my boundaries.  This is nothing but a way of life for me.  A collection of insights and outcomes of accumulated years and experiences.  I’ve done many facets and attempted many different ways of living that I thought I ‘wanted’...they were ALWAYS short lived because my heart was not in it.  The one thing that has remained constant in my life through relationships, careers choices/Ventures,  drinking and drug abuse, etc, etc ...has been the ‘gift’ that I can only say I was born with-to explore and push my limits- to live MY life powerfully from a place of doing what I absolutely love. 😊😊😊
So, do I wake up earlier than most?  Yes.  Bc it’s quiet, calm and I have a jump start on my day- ‘marking’ things off my checklist before most people are even dragging themselves out of bed.  I wake up eager to take hold and seize the gift I have been given of a new day. 
I can only hope each of you find this passion for yourselves...you have one life-create it as you do wish. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Headstand has become a meditation for me. At the end of my daily practice I take headstand for 100 breaths. You can start with 10 breaths, and each week keep adding 5 more breaths until you build up the endurance to stay 100 breaths or more! Kicking up to a wall or facing a wall to walk the feet up are great options if you are just learning.

A new hip hold shape flow and some shoulder mount strengthening. Had fun this week honing in on some new tricks and old skills. Pole never ceases to challenge and give me new things to learn and skills to sharpen. First time trying padangustha dhanurasana...as I get my hands closer to the feet it gets harder to maintain the lift in the upper body. I also found extremely difficult to have a firm hold of the big toes...any tips? 😊🙏 .

Today the @bluepointyogacenter teacher trainees learned about voice and authenticity from the one and only Dana Marks. Voice is so important to effective communication and teaching and it's something that most teachers don't have a lot of training in. They spent the afternoon learning to project, breathe and "buzz the muzzle". Dana is a fantastic teacher and I'm excited to have her working with trainees and soon the BPY teachers. Also on the agenda today: going upside down and discussing the yoga sutras.

Day 16: Tittibhasana C, Forward Fold. This was my first time attempting this firefly pose variation. Trying this near the wall was very helpful in making me feel safe and balanced. I wasn't sure what to expect when I tried this pose out today. Definitely felt a bit like a pretzel 😂 and surprised myself by being able to go deeper than I thought I would be able to go. Getting into this pose with the feet closer together was my biggest challenge. Every time I attempted to heel toe the feet closer together I felt my balance become off. So I eased off on that for now and focused instead on opening up my hips, inner thighs, hamstrings, and low back. Felt great even though I was a bit precarious at first. I'll have to keep working towards this one! I’ve been reading “A Path With Heart” by Jack Kornfield. In the book, he talks about giving a name to what arises when you meditate, in order to ignite learning, healing and growth.

So, if a thought pops into your head, instead of allowing your mind to run away with that thought, call it “thought”, and call it “thought” as many times as necessary until you are able to fluidly return to your breath. If a sensation arises, call it “sensation”, and then maybe you return to your breath, or maybe, you mindfully investigate it more. Is the sensation warm? Call it “warmth”, and then come back to your breath.

I put this idea into practice today while I moved through a few post-run yoga stretches. I definitely found that this practice cultivated present moment awareness, and a space for deep inner exploration of myself. I even learned a little something new about myself, I had not yet discovered before.

Pretty sure this is my first time trying this pose while facing the wall instead of kicking up into it near the wall. Definitely a different sensation, but I enjoyed the challenge and working on improving my hip stack and alignment. While I know I have a ways to go in nailing the correct alignment while completely away from a wall, I know I'm making progress slowly but surely with each practice. DAY 1️⃣6️⃣ of the #naughtyorniceyogi4 is Bakasana | Crow Pose - some days when I try this pose I get excited for the progress and strength. Other times I can’t seem to get up in this to save my life. More and more I find I no longer desire to force something that isn’t there, not because I can’t achieve it, but because I wasn’t supposed to in that moment. Learning everyday to accept and embrace the present even if I don’t like what that means, because it’s not a permanent place its only the place for that present moment. The next moment holds a whole new adventure. If I embrace where I am at I will be able to see and enjoy what comes next. .

Regarding the practice, I have to admit that here in Mysore I get easily frustrated. I’m in the middle of hundreds of practitioners... I see them, getting new postures, improving their practice and their flexibility... and then, there is me... it is my third time studying with Sharath and I got a new asana just last week, my practice is now more painful and hard than the first day, I suffer every single practice, I don’t feel my flexibility improving and I just don’t find the way to keep opening my body more than practicing daily, with calm, quietness and love... but I have to admit that here is easy to get irritated, frustrated and sad... but what to do?! This is it, ashtanga always gives you exactly what you need... I got sick, I’m still recovering, I’m lacking strength and power, I got injured as soon as I arrived here (and old injury coming out once and again)... so when I listen to friends complaining because they just got (4? Asanas this month) or because Sharath didn’t invite them to the led intermediate, I see that every one of us is here to learn a lesson, to have our egos killed, destroyed and vanished. Or not, who knows! Mine, this trip, is being completely smashed into the floor... hopefully this is good news :)

This was SOOOOOO hard!!!
I saw @cyogalab do this and decided to give it a try. I thought it wouldn't be bad because I can do it easily when I'm doing a wall split. Apparently with two legs down it's SOOOO much harder!! I think I'm going to do this everyday to help train myself to be able to press up into handstand one day 😎

I dislike this pose because it reminds me of how tight I am in certain areas of my body. If I work towards squaring off my hips my back heel lifts off my mat into more of a crescent lunge position, and if I work at sealing the outer edge of my back foot down I over-arch in my lower back and my pelvis isn’t neutral. I can’t win 🙂🙂🙂.
What makes this pose somewhat enjoyable is widening my stance a bit, placing my hands into my hips, releasing expectation and just working through the discomfort 👊🏽 deep breaths ! Thank you @shinewithclaireperry for reminding me that I should do this posture more often (Nicolette always gives me a good adjustment in vira1 😉) #yoga10daystillxmas ✨🎄

It was interesting to me because my Iyengar teacher frequently reminds us: "STILL the body. Still the mind." In this line of reasoning, movement causes fluctuations in the mind. The purpose of Iyengar yoga is to be still in the pose, and channel our attention & awareness to observe our body in the pose.

(Note: Ofc I'm aware that Dina and I practise different things. She does martial arts and is great at what she does. I teach yoga asana and come from an Iyengar/hatha background but have sought out other movement modalities, including qigong and tai chi. In that sense, I'm more interested in seeing the overlap between our practices, which is why I'm following her on here 🖤🖤🖤)
