2017 PERSONAL HIGHLIGHTS- DAY 3
Staying closer to home, meeting our @presidentirl Higgins on St Patrick’s Day to celebrate Irelands contributors to STEM which was hosted at @aras.an.uachtarain was a special day for me. My first time meeting the President as well as visiting the Aras too, which exceeded all expectations. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.
Being invited to speak at @inspirefesthq about my big space dream and the collaborations with @blackrockcastleobservatory, @europeanspaceagency, @scienceireland & @lottie_dolls that emerged from these adventures was another significant highlight of the year. We are nothing without those who believe in us, and I’ve been very fortunate to be surrounded by positivity and encouragement. I’m thankful for everything they have given me, especially the strength & courage to be brave and be bold in continuing on the big and long #space journey, no matter what the obstacle. The talk went very well too by the way, and for a brief moment, I trended on Twitter! -

And as part of #inspirefest , I also got to participate in their special FamilyFringe event at @accenturedock, bringing the show ‘My Place in Space’ to people of all ages who came to this great event of #STEM and STEAM- related activities for all the family. -

Stepped outside the office today and was fortunate to run into President Michael D Higgins for a quick chat on the growth of business and young entrepreneurs in Ireland. Man reps a three piece better than McGregor, a gent ☘️
The Day The President of Ireland Visited The Tea Cosy!
The short story -
Today we were beyond thrilled to host The president of Ireland, and 30 of his delegates for scones and tea. President Higgins is in Australia as part of his international tour. As an Irish run business this was a huge honour for us.
The full story-
As most of you know we are an Irish-Australian family run business. A few months ago we got a call from the Irish embassy wanting to make a booking in October for a “high profile Irish guest” and thirty companions. Naturally, we said OF COURSE!... and speculated wildly as to who it could be! Could it be Bono? Ronan Keating? Dustin the Turkey??? Well! We almost died when the confirmation came that it was the PRESIDENT of Ireland! The much loved President Higgins! Poor Nana had to have a quiet whiskey in the corner and catch her breath.
President Higgins arrived at 11.20am today with 30 of his delegates. On arrival we presented him with a handmade koala tea cosy, which he said he’d add to his collection!!! (Tea Cosy collector: another reason to love him). He was also very happy to see a picture of his dear friend Nobel prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney on our wall.
We served the delegation freshly baked scones with Rhubarb Jam and double thick cream, and Ireland’s favourite - Barry’s. The president said he thoroughly enjoyed the meal, especially the rhubarb jam.
Co-owner Eilis was incredibly honoured to be asked to sit and dine with the president and his wife, they talked about tea cosies, Gaelic football and Sydney.
There was a general air of excitement up and down the street as security guards and black cars swarmed around The Cosy. One Irish customer couldn’t quite believe her eyes and asked one of the staff “I’m sorry, but did I just see president Higgins arrive?”. So there you have it, It’s not everyday you get to host a world leader. We loves us some Higgins! @presidentirl
#PresidentHiggins sure knows how to give a speech. Well done to the #HotPress crew on the launch of #HP40 . Great to catch up with some former classmates and music industry heads. Now to catch up with some #Kinnitty folk in Clendennen's! Although, I think I'll be on the cordial again!
