Try out these hip flexor and quad stretching variations‼️ The traditional half-kneeling hip flexor stretch with your knee on the ground can be uncomfortable for people. Also the traditional standing quad stretch is typically performed wrong and requires balance.

There are 4️⃣ stretching variations provided focused on the hip flexors and quadriceps.

1️⃣ Pretzel stretch ➡️ one of my favorites for stretching the rectus femoris
.
2️⃣ Standing stool stretch ➡️ a great standing variation of the hip flexor stretch
.
3️⃣ Prone table stretch ➡️ This one is nice as it has options for just the hip flexors OR bend the knee and hit the quadriceps group
.
4️⃣ Half kneeling stretch with pad ➡️ with the minor adjustment of having the kneecap off the pad, this can make the stretch more comfortable

📝This sequence of exercises is for a return to sport insertional achilles tendinopathy rehab by our buddy @strengthcoachtherapy 🔥.

🌵This is a D1 soccer player, a high level athlete who had been experiencing insertional achilles tendinopathy for almost a month before we made the decision to shut her down. This was after the initial shut down phase where she rested and focused on eccentrics and isometrics without loading into dorsiflexion.
.
👠Foot type always matters. She has high arches with supinated feet; her achilles take the brunt of the load when she runs. We had to change her entire approach to self treatment, which before involved a lot of stretching.
.
👣With an insertional achilles tendinopathy (very bottom of the achilles, pain is on the heel bone), you must avoid loaded stretching because it can exacerbate the injury. Instead, the solution is to remove potential aggravating factors, treat to eliminate pain, and then build the tendons resiliency through exercise.

Episode 590: Patellar Tendinopathy Management [get rid of your patellar tendon pain]

Here is a snippet of some exercises I recently used with an athlete of mine who had patellar tendinopathy. When it comes to all tendinopathies, I utilize the idiom EdURep.
.
Ed = EDUCATION. You must first educate the patient on the pathophysiology and assure them that conservative management does in fact have good outcomes. Teaching the patient self-management strategies and giving them a realistic prognosis/time table is a must.
.
U = UNLOADING. As tendinopathy signifies chronic maladaptive loading, you need to give the tendon a period of relative unloading to promote optimal improvement in outcomes and symptoms relief. Understanding the patient's day to day activities in addition to their training schedule is important in determining where you can realistically unload the competitive athlete.

Re = RELOAD. Systematically reloading the tendon to better handle the stresses placed on it is imperative. Many studies incorporate eccentric and isometric exercises.
.
P = PREVENTION. Retraining proper movement and educating the patient on controlling their training/playing volume is key to prevention.

Episode 591: Reverse Bear Crawls For Serratus Anterior Strengthening
[my favorite shoulder exercise]

The bear crawl has become of my absolute favorite exercises for shoulder health due to the fact that it not only hits the serratus anterior (which is often neglected in comparison to the traps), but it also hits it in closed chain while promoting scapular upward rotation. In particular, the reverse bear crawl is my favorite due to the active scapular upward rotation as you push yourself backwards.

I've shown a brief progression to working up into the reverse bear crawl. Make sure to really drive your hand into the ground and push THROUGH it to move your body backwards. Another cue worth trying is to think of driving your elbow forward.

This last 2 1/2 years have been extremely tough. Single mom, grad student, nurse, & unfortunately patient. I've been juggling assignments, my son's activities, & doctor's appointments consistently since Semester #2. I almost quit last summer. Surgery May 18th this year. I could not do this in my own strength. God has kept me & sustained me throughout the process despite my imperfections. A #anemia pode ser definida como a redução absoluta do número de glóbulos vermelhos circulantes. O diagnóstico é feito quando os valores de hemoglobina (molécula responsável pelo transporte de oxigénio no sangue) caiem abaixo dos 13-14 g/dL nos homens e dos 12 g/dL nas mulheres. Entre as diversas formas de anemia, está a ferropénia (por défice de ferro). A maior parte das anemias pode ser discriminada pelo estudo da morfologia dos glóbulos vermelhos, nomeadamente pelo seu tamanho:
1) anemia microcítica - São caraterizadas por glóbulos vermelhos pequenos (VGM<80fL). Acontece muitas vezes por inflamações crónicas;
2) anemia macrocítica - São caracterizadas por glóbulos vermelhos de grandes dimensões, com um VGM superior 100fL. As causas mais comuns são o #alcoolismo ; 
3) anemia normocítica - Quando os doentes têm o VGM entre 80 e 100fL. Pode desenvolver-se em contexto de perdas sanguíneas.

Os sintomas da anemia são:
- fadiga;
- fraqueza ;
- cefaleia ;
- irritabilidade;
- Intolerância ao exercício;
- vertigem.
A prevenção da anemia é relativamente difícil mas se tiver uma alimentação variada e se for seguido por #médico regularmente mais facilmente poderá tratar-se 😊

This girl right here ☝️ is one of my favorite human beings! Too bad you can’t see her entire pretty face here 💁‍♀️. She wanted to treat her “11’s” or “scowl lines” only, and look what a difference that made! 😍

In both pictures she is scowling as much as she can. We targeted the muscles that cause those scowl lines when contracted and relaxed them. The result is a smoothing out of the scowl lines and prevention of worsening lines that will eventually be very noticeable even at rest. Prevention is key. ✨ 🙌🏻

Compression garments have become very popular due to their proposed effects of increasing blood flow to your muscles. They also make you look really cool. They also might make you feel more secure if you’re dealing with an injury or some sort of pain. But is any of this true?

Yes and no
.
A lot of the research done on compression garments show that it is helpful for increasing circulation in populations that may have vascular complications-like people with lymphedema.
. 
In general populations, walking around and using your muscles oxygenates them way more than any garment you can wear. But if you are sitting at home and not moving at all, maybe compression garments can provide you with slightly more oxygenation.
.
What about for performance? Do compression sleeves help?

A study by Kerhervé et. al in 2017 found that during a 2.5 hour trail run,
✔️there was no change in muscle oxygenation
✔️no change in delayed onset muscle soreness
✔️it did not affect performance
✔️it changed running biomechanics by decreasing contact time and increasing leg stiffness
✔️decreased pain in Achilles’ tendon

‼️Physiologically, for people without any vascular issues, it seems that there is little effect especially in affecting performance.

Everyday I think about the 14 year old boy I gave CPR to. He had taken his own life. He was wearing board shorts, I remember how young and cool he looked, and the future that was possible for him. He was not my first. My biggest goal is to work with At-Risk-Youth, and youth suicide, to boost self worth, and give a sense of pride and achievement, new skills and new friends.
