My very first Pride March, and definitely won't be the last.
Celebrations like this is liberating, the freedom in the air is intoxicating. Everyone's smiling faces reminds you of the genuine happiness they have inside. They're free.
Standing in the crowd, surrounded by members of the community wearing their confidence to the core, feels euphoric. Like you're existing, like you're living. They're strangers, no name to your knowledge, but you feel at home-- at ease.
Some of them survived; some of them are still surviving this life within walls of abandonment and indifference like you. Do not be afraid, nothing is wrong with you. You do you.
To bear witness to a celebration of your authenticity is incomparable to any other celebration. You realize how important you are, not only to yourself but also to the rest of the world. The LGBTQIA+ community is a safe place for everyone, it's a loving home with delicious cookies and fierce smizes.
