For all you Leaving Cert'ers that mightn't have gotten the results you 'need' today👆🏼
If you know what you want to do or where you wanna be - persevere and you'll get there if you want it bad enough 💛
Part 1 of 3:
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament arises from the posteromedial corner of medial aspect of lateral femoral condyle in the intercondylar notch. This femoral attachment of ACL is on posterior part of medial surface of lateral condyle well posterior to longitudinal axis of the femoral shaft. It runs inferiorly, medially and anteriorly. The attachment is actually an interdigitation of collagen fibers & rigid bone thru transitional zone of
fibrocartilage and mineralized fibrocartilage.
The ACL receives nerve fibers from the posterior articular branches of the tibial nerve. These fibers penetrate the posterior joint capsule and run along with the synovial and periligamentous vessels surrounding the ligament to reach as far anterior to the infrapatellar fat pad. Most of the fibers are associated with the endoligamentous vasculature and have a vasomotor function.
The mechanoreceptors on the ACL (Ruffini, Pacini, and Golgi-like receptors) have a proprioceptive function and provide the afferent arc for signaling knee postural changes. Deformations within the ligament influence the output of muscle spindles through the fusimotor system. Hence, activation of afferent nerve fibers in the proximal part of the ACL influences motor activity in the muscles around the knee; a phenomenon called ‘‘ACL reflex.
The major blood supply of the cruciate ligaments arises from the middle geniculate artery. The distal part of both cruciate ligaments is vascularized by branches of the lateral and medial inferior geniculate artery. #ACL#anatomy#medicine#pt#physicaltherapy#rehab#rehabilitation#anteriorcruciateligament#knee#orthopedics#femur#tibia#ligaments#stability#joint#collagen#biomechanics
Check out this great post by @dr.jacob.harden on HOW TO STOP YOUR KNEE FROM DIVING IN ON LUNGES
Ask and you shall receive. Almost 100 of you requested this video from my story and (I think) I got a ❤ or response to each of you so here it is!
You've probably heard about knee valgus by now, which is an adduction and internal rotation of the femur on the pelvis and causes the knees to drop inward on movements like squats and lunges.↘️↙️
There are 2 reasons this can occur.
☝️The most recognized one is when the femur simply dives inward, and this is what most people assume is going on all the time. So they attach a band to the knee for you to push against or cue you to push the knee out. And that's great in the right situation.
✌The less known reason (but one I find more commonly) actually comes from the pelvis. As you step, the pelvis on the side of the back leg may spin open. This can be due to a really tight hip flexor but I find that 9 times out of 10 it's a lack of coordination and control.
🛠To fix it, put your hands on your pelvis and make sure that you keep the back leg side squared off and facing straight ahead. It's a lot harder than it looks and you may find your balance off and your glute burning. Don't worry, that's a good thing.😉

Is the FEAR stopping you from going to the gym and getting the results you want?
So many people have this misconception that the gym is a scary place, that everyone in the gym will look at them when they're training and so they're too embarrassed to go. I totally understand- initially it is intimidating but here's the reality check: ⏺️No one really cares about what you're doing- they're too busy getting their own workout done. ⏺️It's not a school playground people don't snigger and make fun of you. ⏺️Most people at the gym probably don't have a clue what they're doing either. ⏺️If anyone is staring at you they're probably wanting to do that exercise themselves or checking you out 😉. ⏺️It’s not a fashion show, you don't have to wear matching leggings and tops. Be comfortable in what you're training in. ⏺️Yes there are people at the gym who are in incredibly good shape- but how do you think they got like that?? Everyone has to start somewhere. ⏺️It's ok to not know exactly what you're doing when you start out. Ask a member of staff or another gym member for advice if you're unsure or book a couple of PT sessions to learn good form and technique.
Trust me it is not as scary as you think. So many of my clients were initially shitting themselves about going to the gym. When they got there practically all of them have said it's not half as bad as they thought and now they're regulars.
