Did some pause deadlifts today for the first time - didn't know what to expect but turned out to be pretty solid. Could definitely feel my lats giving out towards the end! I think these will be good for me because I know my sticking point is just below the knees - I'm usually ok with getting the weight off the ground and once the weight goes past the knees, I'm usually able to bring my hips forward and lock out. Hence working on the in between portion will really help my competition deadlift!

Like I said in a previous post, the aim now is to do all kinds of variations of the powerlifts beltless sleeveless etc. Did some sumo deadlifts last week and will probably try some one inch block pulls next session so I can lift some heavier weight. I'm aiming to lift in the 75-85% zone so I'm not losing any strength gainz.

This time 2 and a bit years ago I wouldn't even walk to the shop or run for a bus I was overweight as much as I denied it... fast forward to today I am a healthy BMI, I enjoy myself at the weekends but I am much fitter and healthier, I have completed 2 half marathons, born survivor 10k muddy obstacle (top right) and Total Warrior 12k mud and obstacle (bottom right) hard work pays off! I posted this on my Insta story last night and received a few messages, so it seems that many of you could relate. In my practice this morning, forward folding in paschimottanasana (the one after backbend), I felt the usual tightness and "shakes" in my hamstrings. My default approach is to go deeper. To push for more. ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Instead, I took a few breaths to think about all of you who messaged me. I took a few breaths where I said "I FORGIVE MYSELF". I took a few breaths where, releasing the hand bind, I simply sat and hugged the backs of my legs. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ I can't say this opened up some incredible Pandora's box, or that suddenly I can forward fold with the straightest of legs and great ease. Now, goals are great motivators and help us stay accountable. Something I have noticed more and more from talking to friends and clients is "goal guilt". Either not making planned sessions or not performing to the perceived level of "hard work" and therefore ending up feeling pants about yourself. 
Let's think about this for a minute...do you think Jessica Ennis, Michael Phelps, Mo Farah and all the worlds best athletes nailed every single training session week in, week out? 
No. Of course not. Platos are inevitable. Illness, life, pressure, and a multitude of other things can all get in the way of day to day training and performance. However, do you think this allowed these legends to be convinced that their ultimate goal of becoming one of the Worlds Greatest was impossible? No. --
So, let's take it big picture. 
Training + Eating not exercise and diet. 
Wellness, Happiness, Kindess 
Solid investment in yourself week in, week out. 
Consistency will get you there - and if you drop the goal guilt, I am pretty damn sure you will be far happier on the journey too.
