After an internal war of if I was going to even get out of bed on Sunday, I got up and made my way to #SanAntonio for my #SundayFunday. It was well worth the trip. Got to put in a lift, that while not starting too great, I was happy with the out come. After which I ran into some old friends/training partners and was even able to get one to put in some work with me. Thanks to @texasstrengthsystems @tssbarbell for being open on Sunday and allowing me to put in work and thanks to @averyblade for working some hands with me. Working on refining some barbell mechanics in the Snatch. As the weight increases, technique takes a huge forefront. Lacking not only correct position but strength in position brings a change in movement & therefore bar path.

One thing I really have been working on is "posturing up" in the set up, creating tension on the bar before taking the weight. This keeps the hips back and loaded, preventing the "stripper style" pull that tends to appear at heavier loads.

When the bar gets heavier, relaxing the arms is always challenging, having a strong mid back and lats allows you to keep the bar close without bending the arms, but by engaging in against the weight, I tend to get sloppy & purely rely on my arms, due to lacking strength in position, letting the hips creep a little to much & trying to save it with an arm bend. 
Nine times out of ten, when this occurs, I don't stay over the bar during the pull, and bring my hips to the barbell, as apposed to the bar to my hips. This kicks the bar out in front and moves a grounded flat foot base to the toes, ultimately causing the bar to end up on the floor out in front. 
If I was to suggest 3 things to remember during the 101 things that happen when snatching. This would be them. - Posture up from the start (floor) , keep that chest up throughout the entire pull.
- Don't let the bum creep during the first phase, let the chest/hips open at the same time.
- Move those feet out to trigger the drop into good position under the barbell.

I hope this little slo-mo may help anyone who may be struggling with some snatch work. I hear a lot of people discuss different areas of improvement on a regular basis. One common topic is gymnastics breaking down under muscular & metabolic fatigue.

Granted that's the art of the game; but the more efficient our movement not only "on the minute" or during "practice sets" but during conditioning can be, the more energy we can reserve when it begins to get sticky.

For me toes to bar when the heart rates up and the grips getting tight are hard to maintain. The goal of this piece was to go hard and unbroken on the overhead squats, then aim to deal with the gymnastics in the moment, completely on feel when I got there. 
Although this piece may look like a "metcon", it's good to set a goal, the goal wasn't to simply wreck myself by the end, it was to bring intensity to the table which is key, whilst focusing primarily on toes to bar maintenance throughout. I maybe reserved a little to much in the middle, but the breakdown came with around 12 reps to go. Working on this is where the focus now lies.

If you struggle with anything, especially gymnastics when the going gets tough. These little pieces are great to throw in to test your body, as well as build confidence by "messing up" and/or "surpassing expectation" if you fail or hang on to some bigger sets. 
I hope this may help anyone struggling to fine tune movements in their metcon. The foundation is movement mechanics & the ability to perform the skill to the best of your ability. The transfer is then being able to do it under the stresses of our maximum work capacity. βš’πŸ›‘ 30-20-10

The art of resetting singles not only fast, but with correct hand placement, proper positioning & tension with heavier loads is a skill that takes some work. 
Fast singles can sometimes be way more beneficial than big TnG sets with huge rest. It allows a little more time to control breathing & find a rhythm. 
Here's a piece to put a little into practice. Perform all reps as singles. Aim for the same amount of time between each. Find a beat & give it hell! Just realized how far I have fallen off posting. July 31 since my last post!! Sorry. So much going on lately from personal to media. Here is a little of my Day 1 weekly program. In a bit of a slump in the back squats, just had to remind myself, it's just #WeightLifting drop down and finish up. Worst thing you can do is not fail the lift, not drop weight. Training has always been my "escape" from the real world. A few powerful moments to really test yourself both mentally & physically go a long way. Some days, things aren't always on your side, but doing what you can makes all the difference. 
I'm a sucker for the frequent moment of feeling completely overwhelmed & out of control, but channelling it the right way is a skill that takes a lot of time and a hell of a lot of effort. Sometimes your "escape" doesn't allow for that time out, so investing time into finding new ways is a must. 
Today was one of those days; similar to that of yesterday but a little trucking on is sometimes key! Some 80s classics, assault bike and barbells got me feeling a little better. It's human to not quite feel it. It's human to not quite feel it that often at all, but sometimes you can be a little stronger than you give yourself credit for.

To say I've been home for nearly 2 months is pretty overwhelming. Time is one of the most valuable things and sometimes it's scary to see how fast it passes by. 
The last few weeks have been an incredible learning curve & an experience I'll truly value. The new faces I've been lucky enough to meet and coach. The training partners I have been able to share some suffering with. The family and friends I've been lucky enough to see; and the people I've been able to share and build ideas with πŸ™πŸ». Sometimes in life things we truly unexpect take place & what shapes us is how we respond. As scary as change, the deep end and something new maybe. Do what you can to see the silver linings that are sometimes a little clearer than we think. Never feel to caught up in the moment, because in reality this thing called life doesn't last forever.

This week we added the ball & unilateral skill work to the box step downs and the waiters walks.
