This week I was going through my old diary I used to keep when I started my journey in building my first company, back in 2011, and there’s an entry in there that really hit home this week... In the entry, I was referring to being stood in front of a train waiting for the door to open, and a man in a suit took one look at me and pointed down the line and said ’This is first class mate’. He’d made an assumption, based on nothing but what I looked like, and came to the conclusion that I could never be qualified to sit in first class. Later in the diary, I wrote how I wanted to prove people like him wrong and that one day I would sit in first class.
Fast forward to this week, 2017, and I find myself in the back of a car on the way to Buckingham Palace, invited by HRH The Duke Of York to a dinner to discuss Global Goals, an initiative designed by 193 world leaders to end poverty, inequality and climate change.
The moral of the story here is two-fold.
Firstly, we should never judge people based on appearance, just because we have one position in life, doesn’t mean that our perception of that position means that others cannot be qualified.
But secondly, and most importantly, that you really can achieve anything, regardless of where you are today. In that diary entry from 2011, I noted the position I was in and how it doesn’t get much lower than that, but I always believed that it was a temporary, and that belief is what made those moments as happy for me then, as I am now.
Realize that the testing of your faith is to provide patience, and the power in patience gives us the will to persevere, and that will promise us not just success, but peace and joy. Don't run from the struggle, it's there to make you stronger. Don't be moved by fear, your faith can take you beyond it.
2017 has not only been one of the shittest years, but has been one of the best years as well. It has gave me so much happiness and I have found the boy of my dreams, met new friends and been faced with challenges. But it has also given me grief, lost friends, broken my heart heaps of times and made me want to commit so many fucking times. So I just wanted to say a huge fuck you but thank you to 2017 and I hope 2018 is better
