This month I am collaborating with the magnificent Barcelona radio @dublab.es , with a series of images tribute to the voyager project that turns 40 years.
This week: Floating in space
..........
Aquest mes estic col·laborant amb la magnífica ràdio de Barcelona @dublab.es, amb una sèrie d'imatges homenatge al projecte voyager que compleix els 40 anys.
Aquesta setmana: Flotant a l'espai

Our visit to the Very Large Array was both educational and awe inspiring. Thanks to brainy scientists we mere mortals can understand and “see” what takes place in outer space. Plus it was fun to learn about what movies were filmed here. Contact, the big star in that movie, Jodie Foster, helped fund the Visitor’s Center. Independence Day, Carl Sagan’s show The Cosmos and a few others. Worth a visit if you are in the area. #VLA #science #radiowaves #fieldtrip #roadschooling #rvlife #trekarooing #homeschool #selfdirectedlearning #jodiefoster #outerspace #edventure #ditchingsuburbia #roadschool_wonders #worldschool #outerspaceschool #newmexicotrue #visitnewmexico

Oxenfree on PS4 is my 49th platinum and my 71st completed game 🏆🎮 Just WOW. This game is stunning, if you haven't played it I highly recommend it. The art style, the music, the story... It is all just great. I can't even really explain what I love about it without spoiling it all for you but damn it is good. There are still a few endings I haven't got to so will definitely be going back to this at some point.

"Is this science? Religion? It is difficult even for scientists and saints to tell the difference between the two. Perhaps it doesn't matter. When you cultivate invisible seeds, you can't expect everyone to agree on the shape of your invisible crops. It is wiser to simply acknowledge that they grow well together." I have been waiting to get this book into my hands for so long. 😍

My #pitch is bad and boujee (bad) Radar is an #objectdetection system that uses #radiowaves to determine the#range, #angle, or #velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. A radar system consists of a #transmitterproducingelectromagneticwaves in the radio or microwaves domain, a transmitting #antenna, a #receivingantenna (often the same antenna is used for #transmittingandreceiving) and a #receiverandprocessortodetermineproperties of the object(s). Radio waves (pulsed or continuous) from the transmitter reflect off the object and return to the receiver, giving information about the object's location and speed.
Radar was developed secretly for military use by several nations in the period before and during World War II. A key development was the cavity magnetron in the UK, which allowed the creation of relatively small systems with sub-meter resolution. The term RADAR was coined in 1940 by the United States Navy as an acronym for RAdio Detection And Ranging[1][2] or RAdio Direction And Ranging.[3][4] The term radar has since entered English and other languages as a common noun, losing all capitalization.
The modern uses of radar are highly diverse, including air and terrestrial traffic control, radar astronomy, air-defence systems, antimissile systems, marine radars to locate landmarks and other ships, air

Since the discovery of radio waves in 1880 wireless technology has advanced from mere theoretical observations to a readily applied science that touches many aspects of modern life. Wireless communication became possible thanks to the discovery of radio waves in 1880, which led to the first demonstration of telegraphic communication in England. Huge antennas, 27 in total at VLA (Very Large Array) receiving radio waves from the universe. #verylargearray #vla #newmexico #radiowaves #universe #ontheroad #roadtrip #roadrunner #magdelena
The first detection of #radiowaves came from the @nsfgov Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (#VLA) on September 2. This radio discovery was made by the Jansky #VLA mapping of Gravitational Wave bursts as Afterglows in Radio (#JAGWAR) team. Independent confirmation came subsequently from a smaller team led by Alessandra Corsi, also observing with the VLA. The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) also detected radio emission from the object on September 5. #radioastronomy #gravitationalwavesdetected Photo credit: Dana Berry

One of the two galaxies seen here by the Hubble Space Telescope (@nasahubble) is emitting the same microwaves as your kitchen appliance. Microwaves are actually produced by a multitude of astrophysical sources, including strong emitters known as masers (microwave lasers), even stronger emitters with the somewhat villainous name of megamasers and the centers of some galaxies.

The lower, blue-tinted galaxy is a special kind of megamaser. The galaxy’s active galaxtic nucleus pumps out huge amounts of energy, which stimulates clouds of surrounding water. Water’s constituent atoms of hydrogen and oxygen are able to absorb some of this energy and re-emit it at specific wavelengths, one of which falls within the microwave regime.
