today, i am grateful to feel the warmth in my mothers flesh. to bear witness to the rising and falling of her chest. to see her spirit emit twinkles through her eyes.
also on today, i feel all the indigenous peoples shake their fists and cry out in song for the stark white entitlement that's been stuffed down their throats, with land pillaged and resources taken without asking. where is our integrity, our equanimity and kindness? what of gratitude? have we truly lost our humanity?
gratitude is an integral part of our animistic kingdom.
i'm grateful for our root systems, and water making its way downstream. i'm grateful for how the wind carries our winged friends and seeds that persist. i'm grateful for the ability to breathe clean air and to savor the lovingly grown food in my belly. it is my honor to hold you in times of need and tread lightly upon our mother earth.
may our hearts know gratitude as if our lives depended on it. image gratitude to @thehoodwitch 🔥

The Massachusetts tribe whose ancestors shared a Thanksgiving meal with the Pilgrims nearly 400 years ago is reclaiming its native language after it was lost to colonization. The movement to revitalize native American languages started gaining traction in the 1990s and today, most of country’s more than 550 tribes are engaged in some form of language preservation work. But the Mashpee Wampanoag stand out because they’re one of the few tribes to have brought back their language despite not having any surviving adult speakers. On this National Day of Mourning it is important to highlight the efforts to decolonize and reclaim native traditions. If you would like to learn more, please watch the short documentary film titled “We Still Live Here” produced with PBS. #decolonize#decolonization#decolonizenow#reclaim#wampanoag#wampanoagtribe#nativeliberation#nativeamerican#nativerights#nativeroots
