Found another use for the Gary Oldman mustache I acquired some time ago for another post. And if you don’t know why I’m wearing a mustache, if that seems to be something completely unrelated to Simon & Garfunkel please take a closer look at the cover I’m holding or my story for the next 24h. So I felt a little bad after excluding all the S&G albums in my “Favorites from the 60’s” posts, especially since I do really love them all. A lot. And I probably won’t include “Bridge Over Troubled Water” in my 70’s post either (which will be up soon, it’s just taking me so long to choose favorites… it truly was a remarkable era in music). Why, you ask (or not, but either way I’m going to answer it)? Well, it’s because I find it impossible to pick a favorite from their discography. One day I’m certain “Bookends” is one of the finest pieces of music ever written, then I hear their take on “Scarborough Fair/Canticle” & well… then “Parsley […]” is their best. One thing that I am certain about is my favorite song of theirs; “Kathy’s Song”. Goddammit that track gives me goosebumps every time. And that same Kathy makes an appearance in my second favorite Simon & Garfunkel song, “America”, in one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking & relatable lines: “‘Kathy, I'm lost,' I said, though I knew she was sleeping. ‘I’m empty and aching and I don't know why.’” So what’s your favorite Simon & Garfunkel song(s)? #simonandgarfunkel

It's been a long day on the road but it's finally time for a #VinylAndBeerSunday . Tonight I have decided to spin a recently acquired copy of the classic 1973 album from ELTON JOHN. I have been a fan of ELTON's early work - and this is one of his albums that some consider a masterpiece. It may be - but all I know that the songs on GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD was apart of my personal soundtrack during the early 1970s. I can still remember hearing the title song while listening to my Radio Shack "Flavor Radio" while dialed to a local Central Ohio AM station. How can you ignore the title track, CANDLE IN THE WIND, BENNY AND THE JETS, and SATURDAY NIGHTS ALRIGHT FOR FIGHTING? I have not cared for much of ELTON's later and recent work. But his early 1970s albums were fantastic - and still holds up today. I have paired this classic double disc with an Organic IPA from HOPWORKS URBAN BREWERY. Their HOPWORKS ORGANIC IPA is a huge hoppy brew with a lot of citrus and piney overtones. I enjoyed this beer very much - and it is going along very well with the classic tunes and a pizza. So....what are you listening to tonight? What are you drinking?

Number 20 on my best albums of 2017. I can't quite put my finger on what makes this album so, but what it does with stoner rock, southern rock and psych just churns out killer track after killer track. It has a surprising amount of depth with each song given space to breath and time to grow.
