Started today off with egg retrievals, a laparoscopic myomectomy and hysteroscopies with chromopertubation. A chromopertubation allows us to put dye through the fallopian tubes to see if they are open which we usually do during an infertility workup.
Finished the afternoon with high risk clinic with my fav ladies. And we are already 3 months into third year! But who's counting? 🤷🏾♀️ #womeninmedicine#pgy3
#tbt to our last vacation in Miami Beach!
Since I travel quite a bit with my boyfriend on our coordinated days off (because travel = best stress reliever!), I decided to revive my old writing blog, and share a bit of what I do on my days off, including tips on how to get the most out of your traveling on a limited time off and budget! I plan to update my blog with the new places I visit and give some helpful recs as we go on.
Check out "How To Spend Four Days In Miami" (without breaking the bank) on my profile link.
I also updated my "About Me" section to throw more light on the purpose of my blog.
Do tell me what you think, and if there's anything you would like me to talk more about!
It's #RaiseaReader week! I think I did an ok job at it ☺️ My girl has such a love of books, I honestly couldn't be prouder. She can read almost anywhere. Most of my friends have seen her sitting at the consult desk in emerg, in a review lecture, a party, a restaurant, even while walking with her book in hand. It isn't an accident that she loves reading so much. I loved to read as a kid, and I'm happy to pass it on to her. Here are the ways I have encouraged her love of reading over the years:
1) Start young! I've been reading to Abbie since she was a newborn. Bedtime stories are a part of our routine, and still are.
2) Have books easily accessible. Not only do we have a huge shelf full of books, but we spend a lot of time at the library.
3) Limit access to devices. Abbie is usually not allowed to bring a device along to entertain herself to doctor's appointments, restaurants, etc. She is welcome to bring whatever toys or books her heart desires! We don't watch TV or play computer games on weekdays. I would never judge a mom for needing a break and letting their kid use technology. But it's a lot easier to set limits when the norm is imagination and reading and a movie is a special treat on the weekend.
4) Enjoy books yourself. Kids are great imitators. While most of the books Abbie sees me read are textbooks, I also still read for enjoyment when I can. I spent the first year of her life reading my Psychology textbook while nursing. Over the years I've also shared some of my favorites with her, from some childhood favorites to books I've loved into adulthood (Harry Potter crosses generations)!
Two clips from yesterday's back workout. I still have some weird pain in my left lat that is bothering me on many vertical pulling exercises. I can't go as heavy as I would like and I really need to change up exercise selection. So, I used more supersets (exercises in succession) to help get some hard work in without being to aggravating. It's a good technique for when you want to keep the volume high but not push massive weight or during injuries #bodybuilding#bodysculpting#docswholift#yourdoclifts#backday#residentlife#doctor#fitdoc#psychiatrist
#TBT back to my very first splint !!! This was done during my MS3 ED rotation when my attending let me practice on him 😊
Now I put them on in the ED or clinic to immobilize fractures that may (or may not ) need surgery later. Also, because they allow for swelling, its often safer than a cast placed acutely
Short getaway. Ternyata sekitar 45 menit dari kota bisa dapet tempat main seru. Kemana aja baru tau sekarang. Maklum kurang piknik. Let's blame it on #residentlife . Tapi berhubung residennya cewek ya ga bisa disalahin kan pak @dananrufaldi 😝
Anyone else have trouble fully disconnecting from work? •
And I'm not even talking about all the emails that still need to be answered, despite being on vacation, because we have work phones (no joke - one of my attendings answered my phone call in London on his family vacation a few weeks ago!) •
Mostly it's that nagging feeling that I am forgetting something I "should be doing" that I just can't shake week 🤷🏼♀️ #worklifebalance#butmostlywork
My next #offthecharts column is up! It's about the unfortunate bias that impacts the way we care for the #sicklecell patient community during the opiod crisis. Leave me a comment let me know what you think! Link in bio! 👆🏾

Tonight I was so incredibly fortunate to be able to perform as the finale act at the @ubcmedicine Resident Talent Night in front of my colleagues and share a little slice of what I'm passionate about outside of work. So humbling to share a stage with such talented people!
Thank you @acromillissa for creating with me, going along with my ridiculous ideas and somehow making them happen. I'll miss creating with you while you're away at Acroversity!!
@g.a.kinson thanks for coming out to support us. You are a fantastic human and it means a ton to me that you chose to spend your evening with us as our pep squad, lighting crew, and camera man.
Can't wait to share pieces of our performance with you as some of the photos and footage become available :)
The exhaustion from my 6 day a week schedule is definitely settling in and I'm so ready for my first Saturday off in 8 weeks!🙌🏻🙌🏻 Inpatient medicine has been a really great teaching and learning experience, and I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful team to work with, laugh with, and learn from. Our clinical cases are complex and challenging in so many ways, and I have learned something new every single day. I have two days left on the medicine service before I transition into the general surgery service and back into scrubs for the next four weeks. #doctorlife#residencylife#goaldigger#internalmedicine
One of the best things about having a close knit residency fam is all the sweet birthdays you get to bake cake for and to celebrate!
Taking that one brief moment out of the day to pass around cake is something to be thankful for 🍰🎂 Happy early birthday to my sweet co-intern! 😗 #mobgynchronicles#bumcobgyn
Got my flu shot today!
I get my flu shot every year to help protect myself AND my patients from the flu, especially the little ones I take care of before they can get their first flu shots at 6 months. .
Children are a particularly high risk group for serious complications of the flu, with some having to be admitted to the ICU for extra help with breathing or even needing a breathing tube and ventilator. .
Help protect the kiddos by getting your flu shot, it helps protect you and can help curb the spread of the flu virus!
