On today's #ReframeFriday , we thought we'd take a look at the controversial theory of Trickle Down Economics.
We're sure most of you have at least heard of this idea. You might know that it's an "economic principle that advocates reducing taxes on businesses and the wealthy in society as a means to stimulate business investment in the short term and benefit society at large in the long term." (Wikipedia)
You might also know that it's bullshit. Not only has it been proven to be a catastrophic since it has been used to guide economic policy for the last 40 years, but it's an unemipircal theory that was never really based on anything other than armchair speculation by economists who had a dogmatic obsession with free-market fundamentalism.
So where does the "Horse & Sparrow Theory" come in? Well, before it was all dressed up with scientific language and Laffer curves and all the rest, #trickledown Economics was actually known as the Horse & Sparrow Theory. Here's Keynsian economist John Kenneth Galbraith, explaining that older generations in the 19th century had a term for this economic model:
The horse-and-sparrow theory: 'If you feed the horse enough oats, some will pass through to the road for the sparrows.'" At least that version is more honest, no?

Love this message from @olivercabell Don't get us wrong, we all enjoy a bargain but frenzied consumerism is not something we are down with. We love beautiful quality products that last the test of time - they're better for your feet and the environment! #Resist ✊🏼#qualityoverquantity#madeineuropewithlove
Today is Black Friday, and the whole world goes crazy. All that seems to count this week is price, price, price. The cheaper, the newer, the better. Why do people turn so blind on all other factors involved? 💸🤔🌎 Black Friday sales are generating insane amounts of trash, harm the environment and are often produced under terrible labour conditions. Let’s look behind the price tag, consider people and the planet, pick the right brands, and choose only what we really need and appreciate in the long term. Or even better: #resistblackfriday and go secondhand shopping instead! I’ve been going without a single piece of “new” clothing ever since I started impact revolution in June, and have learned to love vintage stores and flea markets alike - it’s the best way to take textiles out of the waste stream, find really unique pieces, save tons of money and avoid creating new trash! 💕♻️👕 [Day 7/30 of my #plasticchallenge ]
So many people online have kept me happy and it helps me avoid wanting to commit suicide. I work on online through art and I can't do anything if this happens.
Yes, I feel angry like a little kid but, I want this all address like we care. That means, be mature. Everyone values the internet in some way and if all the sudden you have immature people getting upset, it only gives people a reason to ban Net Neutrality. All they see is little kids thinking it's fun, maybe even immature teenagers wanted to look at inappropriate websites or such.
We have to address maturely. Because, the world we live in balances on respect. If we can respect opinions, regardless if we agree or disagree, then we can get to easier understandings that makes the opinion of those who want/need Net Neutrality seem far more important, than what grown men and women would think of a childish opinion.
I urge you guys to take part i a protest near you on Dec 7 to keep net neutrality alive use this website http://verizonprotests.com/
To find, host, or attend a protest near you stand up for yourselves and the lower classes and do something. Don't watch as your rights are taken from you. I will be attending one near me. Help us make a difference. #netneutrality#resist

The BJP-led Government of India has failed the trans, intersex, and gender variant citizens in-spite of making grand promises.
This news is terribly disappointing to say the least, and outrage has been expressed by many trans and intersex activists. The Bill if tabled in its current form, does not uphold the right to self-identify gender, proposes physical screenings by District Screening Committees to be used to certify trans, gender variant, and intersex people as transgender, offers token measures in the name of anti-discrimination, and refuses to recognize the distinct, even though sometimes overlapping, concerns of trans and gender variant individuals from intersex persons.
The Bill also criminalises begging, proposing 6 months to 2 years imprisonment with fine. This puts vulnerable trans and intersex women who beg on the streets of India, due to lack of any other livelihood options, at grave risk of further police and state violence. The Bill is simultaneously silent on any alternate livelihood schemes in addition to not addressing the issues of affirmative action in education, employment, and trans and intersex healthcare.
This is a grave violation of the 2014 Indian Supreme Court’s NALSA judgment on trans, gender non-conforming individuals’ and intersex rights and is not in consonance with international precedents either that honour human rights.
