Even though I'm new still to boxing may we always remember you. @rootsoffight (@get_repost)
The great Jake LaMotta has passed.
He was a champion in an age where fighters were true fighters.
He had one of my favorite lines from the fight world on his many battles with Sugar Ray Robinson. "I fought Sugar so many times I'm lucky I didn't get diabetes." A quick personal story. When we signed the #RagingBull I called my father. He is a boxing fan and in his 70's. He was excited and asked me if I told Jake about our connection. I said what connection? My father then shared with me a cool story. My family is from Miami Beach. My grandfather owned a liquor store there on 23rd Street and Collins. In the mid 1940's Jake bought the business "Katz and his Kittens" from my grandfather.
I sadly never got a chance to meet the #BronxBull and was only able to relay the story through his team.
We celebrated such an amazing life last night with a lot of people I never thought I would see again.
Sabina was such an amazing soul and we rarely saw a frown on her face. She saw the best in everyone, and always made sure that everyone around her was having the time of their lives.
Rest In Peace, lady.
I'll always remember the brightest eyes and smile on the floor.
This is Lonwabo Mantawuli, a young 19 year old, South African man. Lonwabo had passed matric and had just started studying at False Bay College, where he was learning to provide for his 2 year old daughter Ulo. Sadly his life was cut short earlier this year when he was brutally attacked and murdered by Tsotsi's (township gangsters) walking home to have dinner with his family at 6pm. He died of severe head injury after being thrown at with rocks, he lay in his mothers arms for 20 minutes after which he passed away. This story is so close to my heart as I knew Lonwabo from when he was young boy. His single mother Priscilla worked hard to put him through school so that one day he could help to ease the financial pressures on his family and help look after his sister who is mentally disabled. He left behind so much, as well as his 2 year old daughter Ulo who was recently tragically orphaned when her mother was raped and murdered. The heart break continues. This is a painting I did for Priscilla the mother of Lonwabo. I took inspiration from one of my favorite artists @mustafamaluka to create a peice which honors the life of this young man. May he rest in peace. ❇
Yesterday at around 2:48pm I lost one of my best friends, the woman that has done everything for me. The woman that raised me and loved me with all her heart and soul My Mom! I am so very lost, confused and sick. She was taken by total surprise, by the silent killer a brain aneurysm. I'm so emotionally wrecked. I can't even function right now. I'm actually near a nervous break down tbh. I always felt extremely horrible for someone who has lost a parent and now I know exactly what they are feeling and going through. I am devastated for my daughter who is in the picture with my beautiful, loving, selfless, kind and hard-working mother. My daughter lived with my mom and stepdad for a period of time when I was going through a very bad rough patch. My mom had a huge soft spot for Charity so you can Imagine what my baby is going through. She was so excited to get to get pictures with her grandma for Homecoming on the 30th and now she don't get too. We are so lost and heartbroken. Please keep us in you're prayers we need alot of them. Also for my step dad who will always be my step dad no matter what. He is in total shock and so lost. He lost his first wife to the same thing so he thinks God is punishing him for something bc it's just crazy this had happened to him 2 times now. So please keep us lifted and in prayers they are very appreciated 💔👼😭🙏 Mary K.
