Okay but like...what's the catch? Where's #ashtonkutcher ...am I getting #punked ?
Being in #recovery is not easy but my new #roomwithaview absolutely makes the hardest days worth it.
I worked hard for this. And...I am proud of me. 💓
Extremely thought-provoking post by @cancer_ology. Don't be afraid to ask for consent as a #cancer patient! "CONSENT. Medical providers and caregivers should be masters of consent. Unfortunately, we are not. All too often we skip consent in assumption that permission is automatic in a provider/patient dynamic. It is not. The patient’s body is their own and we need to remember that. They are not “the breast cancer” in room 409 and “the stroke” in room 312...they are human beings.
After surgery, a menstrual pad (that I could have changed myself) was ripped from my hospital issued underwear without consent...I was stunned and uncomfortable. My heart and brain raced “No, no, NO! We don’t do that! Hey, that’s my pad! Omg! WTF just happened?” Fentanyl and I giggled. Laughter is a defense mechanism.
Throughout treatment strangers touched me. Looked at me. Discussed me. Without consent. I was silent.
I regret that it took personal experience for me to improve my approach to practicing medicine with consent.
May I ask you questions? May I touch you here? May I help you tie your shoe? May I hold your hand while you cry? May I look at your wounds? May I change your pad?
Consent requires constant re-evaluation. Consent. Consent. Consent. It is more than a form.
What do YOU wish your practitioners asked consent for? How can we improve?"
We're closely following @airbnb and just spotted a new like record! This post has just became the most liked photo on the account. Getting a private view from a Parisian home’s window doesn't sound bad at all, huh? 😎 Photo: @travelwander.lust
