Rowers : a great functional cardio move that when done right will not only spike your HR but work your back, arms, and legs. Basically a great total workout in one move!

Start seated on the rower, toes strapped in and a firm grasp on the handlebar. Keeping your core tight, bend your knees to your chest, extend your arms, and lean forward from the waist being sure to keep your back straight and shoulders back...**this is the key!! (And where most people mess up!)** Keeping your back flat the entire time, straighten your legs pulling the bar as you slide backwards keeping arms fully extended and leaning back ever so slightly. Once legs are FULLY EXTENDED then and ONLY THEN pull the bar in towards your chest (sternum level) keeping your elbows close to your body and pinching your shoulder blades together as you pull. Release arms then bend legs leaning forward (at the waist) and returning to start position and repeat. Go slow at first till you have the motion down. I found that repeating “legs, arms, arms, legs” over and over as I rowed helped me when I was starting out. In no time you’ll be a rowing pro!
