This morning, I was scrolling through my different social profiles to find a plethora of really bad and misleading information aimed to help you with your health, fitness and sporting goals. Since it's January, you'd expect to see a tonne of this.
Which reminded me of a blog I wrote about how to distinguish the difference between sound science and absolute bullshit. I'd agree that some are out there trying to rip you off, but most are actually trying to help....but they're not.
When it comes to the type of people giving out information, they can be classed into three groups;
Group 1: Team Science ‘Evidence-based practice is the integration of best research evidence with expertise, integrity and values.’ Group 2: The Bro ‘The predominant brand of reasoning in bodybuilding circles where the anecdotal reports of jacked dudes are considered more credible than scientific’
Group 3: The Dogmatist ‘Going against strong evidence, cherry picking studies and results to confirm their biases’
All three groups have a mutual goal - Again, most actually want to help you; however they all have a conflict in advice which creates misleading and unclear guidance for the population that they are actually trying to help.
So, who should you listen to? ➡️ LINK IN BIO.
Nigerian Rugby Player snapped up by Portuguese Team!
RC Montemor has announced the transfer of Black Stallions Center and Winger; Thankgod Okafor from Cowrie Rugby Club Lagos. The club currently plays in the Portuguese Premier Division. They announced the deal in December 2017 after an agreement was reached with the player through his club.
The big man was born in Nigeria but brought up in South Africa’s Durban province also known as Kwazulu Natal. He joined The Sharks Rugby Academy in 2012 at age 18 and continued to develop through the ranks. He later joined Varsity College in 2015 and Cowrie Rugby Club in 2016.
Reacting to this, the Technical Director of the NRFF, Ntiense Williams described the move as a good move for the player and also for the National team (Black Stallions). According to him, moving to Portugal; a country that has decent infrastructure for the development of rugby will be good for the winger. Hopefully, he will be selected to represent Nigeria again in the future.
Dedicating my post to where my Rugby Career started "Bloemhof Combined School" A small Town situated in the North West Province. I've always had the Dream of playing Rugby on a bigger platform, this coming weekend I'll be playing against not only the team that I've supported since childhood but one of the Biggest Franchises in SA Rugby ( DHL STORMERS ) . Most importantly my post goes out to the Late Mnr Attie Saunders, who saw something in me at the age of 15. He has played a Major Role in my Rugby Career. I'll never forget his famous words before a game " Voel julle dit???????? As jy nie Hoender vleis het nie is jy nie n mens nie" He knew exactly how to get our blood pumping before a game. He always told me to believe in myself and never be bigger than the game. With all Respect Sir your LEGACY will run through the veins of all the players you've Coached. You were a Humble Gentleman with a smile that climbed into all your students Hearts. Forever I'll be Greatful for what I know Today. 🙏 God Bless you in Heaven Sir. You shall not be forgotten 🙌💚👏 #Godfirst#blessed#rugby#rugbyunion#sport#inked#tattoos#humble#hardwork#love#hashtags#followforfollow#insta#goals ❤️ #motivated#picoftheday
