'A recent study was looking to identify risk factors for injuries in a cohort of adolescent athletes and to determine the relative contributions of each factor to the risk of injury. Risk factors studied included: the number of sports played; time spent participating in sports through school and private club teams; participation in strength training; use of a personal coach for training outside of school; average amount of sleep per night; and subjective assessment of enjoyment in sports.
It was found that chronic lack of sleep is associated with increased risk of injuries in adolescent athletes.

Chris Froome recently won the Le Tour de France for the fourth time! This amazing athlete, who became professional in 2007, has only got better from year to year. To grasp the amazing improvements in his performance we have compared his values for body fat percentage, VO2max, peak power, and sustainable power, from 2007 and 2015. - VO2max indicates the peak amount of oxygen an individual can utilise during exercise. It is often used to indicate aerobic fitness level. VO2 is measured in milliliters of oxygen consumed per kilogram of bodyweight per minute. Most amateur cyclists will have a VO2max value between 40 and 60. Most professional cyclists will have a value over 70. - Peak power output is the final maintained power (30 second average) that a cyclist produces in the final stages of a maximal ramp test. A ramp test requires cyclists to cycle continuously against an ever increasing resistance, the rate of which is determined prior to the test. - Sustained power is defined as the power Froome could hold for 20-40 minutes. Froome's power values are 5.98 watts per-kilogram; at his Tour weight of 67kg, it would be 6.25w/kg. Among athletes, a value of 5.8w/kg is considered to be the upper limit of human performance for a 40-minute effort. Seems like 6.2w/kg is doable for Chris for 20 minutes...if not longer. #seriouslyathletic 👌🏼
