(Pt.4) What is the Art of Breath?
Over the last two days we've been discussing the core principles of the Art of Breath.
So far we've covered Mechanics and Physiology. Go back for more on those.
Today, we talk about State.
State describes the interplay between the cognitive and emotional parts of our being and how these ultimately become a mindset.
Our mindset informs our reactivity to the world around us and our ability to self-reflect and make decisions about who we are, how we feel, and actions we would take.
Mystics have known for millennia that the breath is where the mind and body touch each other. We have an absolute hard wired system for being able to directly influence our own thoughts, patterns, and behaviors.

(Pt.3) Art of Breath Principles
Yesterday we talked about the first of 3 concepts we work with, mechanics.
Today, les discuss physiology. Breath is the number 1 regulator of our biochemistry. It is the fundamental life giving fuel source and as such deserves be prioritized in the hierarchy of focus.
Through breath we regulate the release of 70% of metabolic waste, balance our overall pH, and even govern which energy source we use during training.
The breadth and depth of this subject is far too complex to extrapolate in this port but simply Google Bohr effect to get a taste.
(Pt.2) The Art of Breath is informed by 3 over arching principles.
The first is mechanics.
Putting ourselves into positions and patterns that allow to access our most powerful and efficient physiology.
There are 2 types of mechanics components we discuss:
Formal breathing positions. These are static seated or lying positions that allow us to easily get the musculoskeletal system into resting organization and access ideal ventilation mechanics.
Performance positions and their correlates. These are positions we would see in training or actual sport/competition. These positions are often less than ideal but nonetheless should not see overwhelming degradation of breath quality.
Through the practice and understanding of these pieces we can effect our performance tremendously without spending any additional training time or energy.
What is the Art of Breath?
The Art of Breath is simply a principles based approach to developing an understanding of the breath.
