The three sages.
White sage, black sage, and California sagebrush solar infused in sweet almond oil for 3 weeks. Going be using these in all kinds of body care projects in the future-deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo, lotion, and just directly applied to skin. Excited to keep experimenting with local aromas, especially those with therapeutic properties.
When I was a little girl, my sister and I spent countless hours foraging and making concoctions we called "witches brew" in our backyard. I'm still doing it, only now I make useful stuff out of it. #missmysister#kidswithouttv#chaparral#sagebrush
Hi, I'm Christy. Since I was two I've had a camera in my hand... no really. I may have only taken photos of the bottoms of chairs, our cat Henry or my dolls but it's been there and it's lead me to here.
An INFP with a love for exploring new restaurants, finding my next favorite recipe on Pinterest (whoa.... you should see my food boards... it's actually slightly embarrassing), and a girl just looking for an adventure. My favorite days are dancing in the kitchen with our daughter, loading up the back of my 70's Chevrolet with all the goods for a picnic or exploring the mountains (camera in hand, of course). Thanks to my husband for grabbing this super fast shot in a gorgeous little park just off the road this past July on one of our adventures in a spot near and dear to my heart... Montana.
We like to drive the back roads and check out the local countryside wherever we travel. This is the scenery just outside of Antonito, Colorado. Miles and miles of sagebrush, punctuated by western fencing, a few cows, a few horses, not much else.
I wish I could save the smell of rain and sage for later too. Today I taught a school in rural Utah about science. I normally just teach 5th grade but today I got to teach the whole school. Why? Because there were TWENTY students. Adorable.
"From the clayey soil of northern Wyoming is mined bentonite, which is used as filler in candy, gum, and lipstick. We Americans are great on fillers, as if what we have, what we are, is not enough. We have a cultural tendency toward denial, but being affluent, we strangle ourselves with what we can buy. We gave only to look at the houses we build to see how we build against space, the way we drink against pain and loneliness. We fill up space as if it were a pie shell, with things whose opacity further obstructs our ability to see what is already there." // Gretel Ehrlich, The Solace of Open Spaces
I come from the sagebrush,
my mother's sweat out in the fields,
her magic, the maíz, the hot sky,
the melanoma spreading from her heels
I come from the watermelons,
dripping sweetly in the sun,
my father had one thousand dreams,
what would they be if they could become?
Power to the Dreamers,
bellies full of thunder,
what appears a seat at the table,
is the heaviest hunger
