CRACKED & WEATHERED
Zion National Park
(c) Bryan Nowak
Looking at the stone on the side of this mountain, one can't help but notice the cracked layers of rock due to ages of environmental changes.
Looking at the weathered and cracked skin of some older adults, one can't help but wonder what kind of changes they have seen and experienced over the years.
We create National Monuments and Parks to preserve these mountains of ancient stone, yet too often those with advanced years are "put out to pasture", neglected and forsaken. We forget that they too were once young, strong and hard-working employees, parents, citizens and servants of God.
The writer of Proverbs says, "Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old." (Proverbs 23:22)
People of advanced age have great wisdom to impart and great love to share. Weathered and broken? Maybe. But God is not through with them until He calls them home and so we ought to give them the respect and honor they deserve too.
