The church on the hill... The Chapel of Our Lady of Peace can be found in the town of Vila Franca do Campo, on the south coast of the Island. It was built following the 1522 earthquake that destroyed the city, which was once the capital city of the island....................
Thanks to Danielle @tinks_101 for discovering this church on our trip around the island 😊📷💛
The island of the Lakes... I came to Sao Miguel island with not many expectations, just to hike and enjoy the green scenery. I’ve actually been surprised by the absolute beauty of this island, with so much to see and do. From visiting the many beautiful lakes, forests, waterfalls, to hiking up the mountains and cycling. This island is an outdoor enthusiasts dream 😊💚⛰. #visitazores
This is what I came for 📷💚... The view of Sete Cidades, which is a twin lake situated in the crater of a dormant volcano. It consists of two small, ecologically different lakes connected by a narrow strait, which is crossed by a bridge. #visitazores#azoresgetaways
Mass tourism is slowly taking its toll across the globe, with Iceland being a clear example of an overcrowded destination that, sincerely, doesn't need more tourists right now.
Luckily there are still some destinations both close and far that remain as a heaven for those looking for stunning landscapes yet quiet time without tourist crowds.
#Azores is one of them. These Atlantic islands off the Portuguese coast are as striking as it gets, offering world class surfing, endless volcanic lakes, hot springs among lush tropical gardens, welcoming locals and incredible cuisine. Yet their best feature is how empty of tourists they are in Winter.
We're just back from São Miguel, a paradise in the Açores, and can't wait to continue uncovering its sisters Terceira, Pico, Faial, Graciosa, Corvo, São Jorge, Santa Maria and Flores. -
