I know so many of you wanted this fabric. So... you might not be happy with me when I tell you that this custom for @spiritual_warrior2016 is the last one able to be made with it!! 😫 Trust me, my fabric vendor is amazing, and if there’s a way to find more, she will!! I almost hated to post this and add salt in the wounds of all who were hoping for it. Buuuuuuut....#donthateme

Slowly but surely turning my wool stash into lovely winter dresses! ❤️ #modernseamstress
These pockets involve a little back story on my skirt making journey. It’s a lot of words. Bear with me. 😉 So, I’ve made these skirts for myself for years. Whenever I wore them, women would kinda flip out. I wouldn’t always say I made them, but when I did, they’d ask if I’d make them one and I’d always say no. I was nervous to make things for other people. A year ago, I decided to stop saying no and see what happened. Seemed like the ball was starting to roll...then I was told these skirts “just aren’t what’s in right now. It’s not what women want.” And I felt like the ball was stomped flat. I didn’t agree but it watered that seed of doubt that was already planted. Last spring, it was kind of like....ok...I’m either gonna do this, or...I’m not. I decided to wear one to a big, local market, @phxflea, and see what kind of response I got from people. It was insane. Women loved it. And THAT’S where I ran into @spiritual_warrior2016. We had known each other 20 years ago. She asked if I would make her one. I said yes. One turned into 4. And it all went from there. And went quickly. Everywhere she wore them, people wanted to know about “the girl in the skirt.” And she’s not shy to share. She’s also the one that inspired me to do “pocket messages.” I had things I wanted to tell her but were hard for me to say face to face. Sometimes I’m a better writer than I am a talker. I know maybe they’re cheesy, but feel like...if I’m gonna do this...I’m gonna give it all of me. So...back to these pockets. Why owls? Well, Victoria, I know that owls are kind of your good luck charm. And, apparently, sweet friend...you’re mine!!
Did you know that here on The Flora Modiste I personally draft all of the patterns for the monthly sewing projects? Every. Single. One. These sketches are a sneak peak of this month’s project: A #tbt to my time at FIDM. But first, I had to learn how to read a sewing pattern. Link in bio!
Vibrant Foxy Bucket Bag
Hello my IG friends! Finally complete! Just like in my mind! This is a transitional bag to take you from the unpredictability of the changing weather where you could use a little extra room for a light sweater or a small umbrella. Great for little beach trips and always awesome with a little boho outfit.
It’s a little behind schedule as it was a project I drafted in my mind back in Springtime, (or maybe I’m just early for Spring 2018!) but I am so incredibly happy I didn’t rush this because it wouldn’t have such good vibes attached to it or have turned out exactly as I’d pictured.
This medium sized drawstring bucket bag features the incredible fabric of one of my favorite designers, @TulaPink It is lightweight yet sturdy and features bold prints and colors. One of the distinctive ways I approach design is with color and pattern which at first glance may not make sense but in the end it comes together exactly how I dreamed. Each bag is meticulously handmade with lots of love and as always, limited quantities.
I’m working up a few more color combos and they will be available for order soon. Want to pre-order? Interested in a custom order? Message or email!
