I was feeling a bit under the weather this weekend, so in lieu of going to the Women's March (thank you everyone who rocked it!), I stayed home & painted pussies. ;) An entire 8-movie marathon later, my Harry Potter inspired kittens are nearly complete! I'm finishing up the final layers of the Gryffindor kitten this eve, and then I get to decide how I want to proceed with the house crests.
I'll likely put these on hold for a few days while I finish up some new pet portraits, but here's a teaser for Ravenclaw for now. You can find more process pictures & my thoughts on each painting on my Patreon, available to my $1+ patrons. Pics & write ups are now live for Ravenclaw & Slytherin. :) https://www.patreon.com/ClockworkArt
Day 14 of 31: A study of a special girl’s sweet eyes. 💗 (Pardon the partially blurry pic- because it’s wet still I couldn’t get a flat scan of it. )
2.5 x 3” oil and watercolor on paper
This was a fun one for multiple reasons. I finally played with some #archesoilpaper I had, which was really interesting and different! And this meant I could apply some watercolor before I started oil painting, which I’ve never been able to do. It was also great to do a study, instead of the whole image. Getting back into human portraiture has been fun but it’s really nice to be able to focus on just one area of the face, to really flex my skills. 💪
It was also an honor to paint my friend @lelani ’s beautiful girl, who passed away when she was just 5 from Leukemia. 💗 You can get involved with the fight against childhood cancer through her memorial charity, @friendsofmia 💗💗💗. •

Age 5 captured in: a growth curve printout + self portrait + precious hand writing 🖤 some milestones are easy to miss, like the first appearance of hands and feet on a self portrait but now it’s been captured forever and ever alongside a birthday growth curve printout from the doctor’s visit and hand writing on a school worksheet 🖤 DM for your own custom piece #heavyweightart#customcollage#modernmemorykeeping

Ooh the absolute joy, Isabel came alive during her photoshoot when she started to dance! I love seeing people's joy and hearts align, to create one beautiful, soulful photo. Thank you for letting me capture your light, Isabel! ❤️
Hit me with that outrun-punk smokey eye!!! Shapes! UGH I was LIVING in this look, I didn't want to take it off. My go to makeup lately has been a cat eye or just an all encompassing punk-smokey eye and I guess that's where my personal aesthetic lies now 🤷🏼♀️
Today, I spent the afternoon with @oliverr_photo and his lovely assistant as they worked to capture me in my studio. (Even the sun came out for the photos. I can't wait to see the portrait!) Then, I rushed over to @madartseattle to see Ginny Ruffner and Grant Kirkpatrick's exhibition, "Reforestation of the Imagination." There, I scooped up @barnes_paige and we spent the evening discussing our future collaboration. While we chatted, my dear former coworker @swimmyblue made an appearance. All this while @georgesculpts and Liz loaded his kiln outside my studio and @zakhelenske slipped and carved jars and mugs under my balcony. I love the energy and space this building provides. No day is ever the same.
If you want to participate in this magic, keep an eye out, Zak will be launching some classes in the near future!
Let’s talk about framing...yet again!😆
I sold this paper piece last week & the buyer doesn’t want it framed -hurrah! But she does want it hanging from a wooden batten😟 So my handy husband and I have been figuring out a way to create a wooden hanger that doesn’t damage the paper. I think this works. I’ve added a leather cord but there are also sawtooth hangers on the back if my collector prefers a sharper look. Will let you know what she thinks.
