**DAY 15** of #SelfCareSeptember . I probably don't really have to go into detail about how important childlike play and curiosity is to me - that's what Ice Cream for Breakfast was all about! About all the lessons I learned from the girls I nannied last year... who (she screams, excitedly) I'm about to spend the whole weekend with! I've got face masks and glitter nail polish for some pampering tonight, and tomorrow we'll go on a "date" to a fancy restaurant where we will drink lemonade out of wine glasses, and in between we will colour in and jump on the trampoline and do read aloud and snuggle up for a movie. 48 hours of play - now THAT is some serious September self care 😊 How will you make time to piss about and look at the world through the eyes of a kid this weekend? #laurajanenannies
Repost @rocket_science // #SelfCareSeptember - TIP # 18: Giving is receiving. ⠀
I love giving gifts as much as I love receiving them. It's a great feeling when you can give something that someone NEEDS rather than a token gesture. ⠀
Here I have wrapped an insulated @lunchbots from @biomestores as a birthday gift for my dear friend @mizzfizz_ - she's been complaining about her leaky lunchbox all year and I decided to get her an upgrade. ⠀
I've wrapped it in a Japanese lunch mat which acts as a napkin and also something you can lay over your lap when eating. It's a great zero waste alternative to wrapping paper. ⠀
Functional and aesthetically pleasing - that's what I like to look for in a gift. ⠀
What are your favourite gift ideas? ✌️👇
Something I wanted to accomplish during #selfcareseptember was to work more with my hands. So I'm knitting a blanket and playing around with bread recipes. Last night, I perfected my favorite. Blanket is still TK. 🥖🥖🥖 #mdrsittystudio
Got off work at 5pm on a Saturday which meant I:
1. chatted with my neighbors at the bodega
2. made dinner with goodies from the farmers market
3. shared dinner and caught up with @djbuttah
4. did all the dishes and cleaned the kitchen (!) 5. lit some incense and put on a face mask (last day of #selfcareseptember )
6. finished my first homework assignment for my photo class.
All the while listening to @wnyc with my slippers on. It was a very cozy & productive night indeed.
Love this! #Repost @sumr86 (@get_repost)
My wonderful new My Quality Time Self-Care Activity Deck was finally released by customs and I got to pick it up today. How beautiful are these cards?? My first draw was to "Tidy Up" so I guess I better get to it! #myQTdeck by @dejadrewit #dejadrewit#selfcareseptember
Today's theme is #andthatsok
I have a huge show tonight - #AMDEF - with @wrecklessfreeks and guests. My body is feelin a little funky and sore today, and that's ok.
And I'm singing Dvorak's song to the moon tonight and my #Czech is terrible. And that's ok.
And I got lost on the bus and went the wrong way and had to cab here. And that's ok.
And I'm in a neighborhood that's super close to my old place and its triggering sad memories, and that's ok because my triggers and traumas are MINE to manage, not for others to accommodate.
In the end this is my happy place: greenrooms, rehearsals, warm ups, being jittery backstage and hearing my name called & the roar of the crowd.
Sometimes I have to fight emotional beasts to get to that happy place.
And that's ok.
Cause I always get there.
Saying you don't have time to work on improving yourself by attending seminars, reading books, researching, networking and spending time to refuel.....is the same as saying you don't have time to stop for gas because you're too busy driving. Eventually it will catch up to you with complacency or burning out.

This guy! 🙌🏻 @samfarmer_co on the blog today 👆🏻Such fun chatting with him last month. Link in the bio!
Today’s blog post is a LOT later than I actually intended to post (I'd actually written it weeks ago), mainly due to September incurring a spanner in the works after a trip to A&E and having to REST for a few days, the irony of #selfcareseptember right? Soooo, my apologies peeps, but I am feeling better and back on track, so here we go!
Link in the bio 👆🏻 On today’s post I welcome the awesome @samfarmer_co to the blog, taking time from his busy schedule to chat with me about his own self care and of course, his awesome skincare brand!
Plus he's a fellow lover of my home town of Hull, City of Culture 2017, which makes me admire the guy even more! -
Keep your eyes peeled for Part 2 of our chat coming up on the blog soon! -
