This Eggplant seedling was planted mid Winter (inspired by @geoffwakeling ) so hopefully we get Spring flowers as last year we had a long Winter and the eggplants didn't set fruit until Autumn and it was too late for fruit. #moatcottage Hopefully more come up as well.
Years ago we'd always have little wishing conversations about shaking off our stressed, restricted life centered on keeping up with our neighbors, and always being in poor health because of bad life choices.
Our idols were stuff and money.
We knew we couldn't continue on in the part of the country we resided in if we craved a life of sustainable options and the freedom to live simply and organically without financial restrains.
Only three years into this and we have been blessed to be able to obtain a quarter of our diet from things we've grown, raised and traded for. My health has improved in such ways that I am free from medications I used to rely on.
We don't have a lot of financial worry because nothing we have has been bought first-hand. Everything we use and own has been seconds.
We work hard but it's not the kind that gives large paychecks and fancy vehicles. It's the sort of reward that turns your eyes to all the truths that really matter, not the shiny bright objects that fade and rust over time but the things that define a life.
Here's one of our huge, organic tomato's. We have so much we've been giving them away by the bucketfuls with enough for us stored away. And isn't that a more simple, and true way to live? It's so easy, get then give, and yet it seems as though it's one of the hardest things a man can do.
I still can't believe the amount of indigenous fruit trees that are just growing naturally everywhere in this country. Just in this short scooter trip you can find mango, coconut, banana, avocado, cocoa, passion fruit, papaya, durian, pineapple, coffee and fig trees plus many other vegetables and edible plants I still need to try!!
In my element 😍🍌🌶🍍🍆🌽🍉🍅🌴
Some new seeds arrived today from @boondieseeds and I will be sewing some in the greenhouse and filing others into my seed storage system and yes it's in 3 sections, vegetables/fruit, herbs and flowers and in alphabetical order, with different seed varieties kept in the larger labeled bags. #moatcottage
The Poultry Auction was on in my town today so I had to take a look. I would have loved these lovely #Pekins however I can't own every breed I would like due to local laws and we will have baby Muscovys by early Spring if all goes to plan, so I was good and went home with only a few photos and locally grown poultry feed for my australorps & muscovys #moatcottage
