Callie Greer (pictured at top), a native of Montgomery, AL, is a community organizer with the Selma Center for Nonviolence Truth and Reconciliation. With her Center colleagues, Brendan O'Connor and Ainka Jackson, she visited Richmond last week with partners from The Black Belt Community Foundation to explore the work @iofcusa which has been committed to the community for over 25 years and is carrying forward with Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation. "I am so full from my visit to Richmond and ALL you have accomplished. I was really inspired with all of the folk that showed up personally and shared with us. That speaks volumes to me in my spirit. I am working towards that kind of relationship with our folk here in Selma. Trust. Respect. Concern for each other. Yeah, that's huge for me," Callie said.

The Center partners with institutions to address the root causes of physical, mental, emotional, economic, political and #racialviolence—including #racialprofiling—with the goal of implementing long-range solutions to #systemicviolence and building the #BelovedCommunity. "There's been more violence and murder here and in my hometown of Montgomery. And we're reaching out to our community and being as visible and reachable as possible. Pray for Selma and the South and our world. And we'll remember y'all in prayer as well." #Truth #RacialHealing and #Transformation is a multi-city enterprise made possible by a seed grant from @kelloggfoundation #Selma and #Richmond are two of 14 locations in the #TRHT network Find out more at greaterRVA.org

Our second stop with our TRHT partners from #Selma from #blackbeltcommunityfoundation #selmacenterfornonviolence was alongside the #JamesRiver and Trail of Enslaved Africans. While this was an opportunity for them to think about how to further harness the history of Selma as a healing and trustbuilding effort akin to what @iofcusa has done in #Richmond, it was also simply a moment of time for them to pause and reflect at this sacred spot. "The Slave Trail had a major impact on me, especially learning the exact size of the cells the slaves were in while on the slave ship," said Rev. Robert Turner, Executive Director of Alabama's Black Belt Community Foundation.

Last week we were privileged to host our fellow TRHT partners from #Selma Our powerful 24 hours together began at #libbyhill overlooking the City of #Richmond under the watchful eye of the #Confederate Soldiers and Sailors #Monument.
Rev. Tee Turner, Director of Reconciliation Programs for @iofcusa #hopeinthecities spoke with the group about how he never liked the statue, because it was a symbol of the sentiment that the #TheSouth would rise again. But then he began to think about it from the perspective of grief. Just as his AfricanAmerican ancestors will killed and NativeAmericans were killed, this statue represents lives lost and grief as well. "These are all stories of grief. Everyone has a #sacredstory and that needs to be validated. #Healing can't begin until there's validation. I still don't like the statue, but I understand it." #TRHT is #Truth #RacialHealing and #Transformation a multi-city enterprise made possible by a seed grant from @kelloggfoundation
