It's been the perfect last weekend of Summer. A fun trip to #SevenPeaks , and date night with @rawiri04. Lazy Sunday spent baking cookies, organizing, and binge watching Bachelor in Paradise and the Bold Type. Today Ry is moving in to her apt, and there's a new BIP episode for us to watch. Basically a perfect mix of productive and fun.
So confession I was testing out a new lens and took this pic from across the wave pool @sevenpeaks. Sorry random girls for being a creeper snapping a pic from far away but your hair looks great in this pic!
Proof that I got in the water--thanks to a ward activity, I dunked my head under and even went down a slope/waterslide (the water at the end was only 4 ft deep and if there were any other concerns my roommate used to be a lifeguard). It was one of the scariest things I've ever done but I'm glad I did it. #sevenpeaks#waterpark#slc#hydrophobia#faceit
The view that bought me to tears. #WorthTheFacialFrostbite
Summit Day is undoubtedly the most difficult day of the hike. You've waited months to see the views at the summit and push your body and see how it will perform under high altitude, something you can't prepare for coming from Sydney.
The hike starts at midnight and you walk up a steep ascent from base camp (4673m AMSL to 5895m AMSL) surrounded by stars including the Milky Way. It takes 6-7 hours to reach Stella Point, the last stop before summit and the last of the steep ascent. The higher you climb, the colder the weather gets, the thinner the air is and the heavier your breath becomes. The 3L camelback completely freezes over and you're burning an inordinate amount of calories so staying warm and keeping your energy levels is a challenge. The last hour of the hike to Stella Point felt like an eternity... Then right on cue as we reached the point, the sun lit up the sky, it felt warmer and we were surrounded by equatorial glaciers. Breathtaking in every way. Africa you are incredible. 💛
