Every once in a while I have an encounter with someone who tries to push all my buttons, and I know they're doing it purposefully, to see if that bright, shiny, smiling face is for real. I can't blame them. If I didn't know how deeply I love, and how genuine it is, I'd doubt me too. Hell, sometimes I still do - and that constant gut check is part of what makes it even more authentic.-
Thing is, I spend 90% of my day with other people's shadows. The parts of them they're not sure how to own or accept, let alone love. And to do that, I've absolutely GOTTA know my shadow, and I do. My past is not all rainbows and butterflies and unicorns soaring through the sky. Anyone who takes a moment to know me, knows how freely I own and share that very fact. It was painful as hell to touch my darkness, to own that it was a part of me. But once I did, oh my goddess did I grow. And once I did, oh my goddess did I finally find the path I was seeking, the one that I'll always be walking, toward loving myself more fully.-
The disavowed shadow is what wreaks the most havoc in our lives, but the ironic part is, once we meet it and accept it, it no longer controls us. And if we're brave enough, we can even dance with it, and aside from spurring loads of growth, our shadows are often the most liberating, free and creative sides of who we are.-
So yup, there's darkness inside of me too, and if you'd just ask, I'll quite gladly show you.
Balsamic moon slow mood part one. My mind and body are fighting any work. Even the work I am excited about. I'm grinding to a halt. Appreciating patience. I spend so much of my time making art about cycles, counseling people about cycles, studying cycles...and sometimes that work means I need to live outside of my own cycles. #balsamicmoon#shadowdance#dailyimprovisation#slowpractice#dancemagic#bodyprayer
We moved into a house in Kent Ct and erected a labyrinth stage with a 20 foot projection screen. I was alway interested in shadow dance and had seen some amazing stuff. Wanted to incorporate fire and do a fire and ice type show. One day a man come out from the woods and introduces himself as my neighbor (right) next door neighbor. He then tells me he owns a dance company and he becomes our new bff. We come to find out his company does some of the worlds best shadow dance!!! So thrilled to have an amazing neighborhood lol... and so excited that his company's show has a stop in my very own state Connecticut. If your around Norwalk on the 28th check them out!!! A little bit about his company. An America’s Got Talent finalist from Season 8, Catapult is a magical production that features incredible dancers who work behind a screen to create shadow silhouettes of shapes from the world around us. Be amazed as you watch their bodies transform into a mountain, an elephant, a dragon, even a helicopter! You’ll never figure out how they do it, and you won’t know what they will create next – you’ll be surprised and delighted again and again. Packed with hundreds of shape transformation, the show is full of humor, emotion and engaging stories. #ctdancecompany#shadowdance#catapultdance#catapultdancecompany
