At the @makeknox Maker City Summit today for inspiration. I'm so grateful for my life as a photographer and this beautiful couple who hired me to photograph their wedding day many years ago, my first wedding as the primary photographer. I love the relationships and inspiration that come out of this work. As a maker that enjoys making art and experiences, serving couples committing to a life together is perfect for me. My favorite phrase from the morning is "stop should-ing all over yourself" from @stephcrowder_. It's a hilarious and great reminder that your business and life goals don't have to be what you or others think they "should" be.
There really wasn't a filter I could find that could better bring out the golden-brown afternoon calm that fell over El Cerrito the other day. I've lived here for almost three years and in less than a week I won't anymore. The boxes are packed and most have already been moved. A very significant part of my life was lived in this apartment, lucky enough to be directly behind a donut ship and unfortunate enough to be on the same block as the police department. It's easy to be a critic of places like this and to claim it's only value is in its nearness to Oakland and the city. But I'll undoubtedly have nights and mornings when I miss El Cerrito. This is where I came to be who I am, and who I'll never be again.
