The longer we sit the weaker and less flexible the muscles of the shoulder get. One of my favorite exercises is called the shoulder roll. Bring your shoulders as high up as you can comfortably, then roll them backwards with the goal of squeezing your shoulder blades together. ✨✨ FOURTH SHOULDER SEQUENCE OF THE JANUARY POLE COMBO CHALLENGE! ✨✨
Wow! Already near the end of this month's challenge. I was excited to post this one because this week's theme is shoulder binds!! Don't worry if they are difficult, just do your best working toward the bind and breathe slowly. This video was sped up 2.5x. First one is lunge with bind, and if the bind is not accessible focus on bringing the front hand to the floor and stretch the back arm as it crosses behind your back. For the second one, this is also a twist (I also posted this in the November challenge) so if you are still working on this twist try to bring the front arm in front of the bent leg and keep the spine straight. For bird of paradise, start with trying to bind in the forward fold, careful with balance. Straightening the leg at the end is completely optional if it's accessible for you.  Remember to go slowly, try to take at least 5 slow deep breaths at your farthest point and make sure you don't feel any pain or try pushing too far. Contact me with any questions!

Day 19 - #PadangusthaDhanurasana .

Another progress and I wasn't even planning on giving it a go today.  But it felt good so I worked on it a little without pushing. .

I'm amazed I could get to this point without feeling pressure and without my normal big warmup. .

I think my shoulders and upper back made the most progress last year. .

Getting assessment and treatment for my back today, actually it's most likely my pelvis and SI joints. Fingers crossed it can be fixed easily.

Day 19 - #bendybody day today I’m starting up my favourite flexibility programme. A few years ago I downloaded 2 flexibility workouts from @fitandbendy and it was this over all the others I’ve tried that I actually saw results quickly from. One is called bendy body which focuses on creating strength and stability for more flexible movements and the other is call #getbent which is #circus style #training which is more advanced training in #frontsplits #middlesplits #backbends #shoulderflexibility. The instructor is @kristinanekyia who is absolutely amazing and I’m a little bit in love with her... so hopefully that will keep me #motivated to do both these videos at least one a week #consistencyiskey

My goal is to gain size but not to sacrifice my flexibility and athletic movement. So I like to add parkour and other gymnastic type movements.

Shoulder Mobility & Flexibility

1. Duduk berlutut, panjangkan tulang punggung, otot perut aktif, 1 tangan ke arah bahu berlawanan (siku tekuk sedikit), tangan lain menekan siku atau tricep untuk stretch lebih dalam.
2. Putar bahu dengan gerakan luas, tidak terburu-buru, bahu tak terangkat, tulang punggung tegap memanjang, fokus pada rotasi bahu. 
3. Posisi malasana, tekuk kedua siku dan kaitkan di depan lutut, tulang punggung memanjang, siku dan lutut saling menekan.
4. Scapula push ups dalam plank, hanya belikat yg protract-retract.
5. Shoulder stretch dengan block di bawah kedua siku (gunakan 1 atau 2 block berjejer, gunakan block pd tinggi terendah, medium, atau plg tinggi). Relaxkan kepala ke bumi, apabila kepala menyentuh bumi, posisikan block lbh tinggi.
6. Reversed table top, letakkan tulang duduk, perluas mobility bahu dengan perlahan memajukan posisi tulang duduk sedikit demi sedikit. Bahu aktif menjauhi telinga.
7. Menghadap tembok, tempel bahu hingga ke ujung telapak tangan ke tembok, putar tubuh menghadap samping. Bernapas di sini atau untuk stretch lebih dalam, sedikit demi sedikit melangkah menjauhi tembok tanpa mengubah posisi telapak tangan di tembok.
8. Duduk 1 kaki lurus ke samping, kaki lain ditekuk ke belakang, tarik sisi badan agar lengan berlawanan mendekati posisi telapak kaki yg lurus. Jaga agar tubuh tetap 1 garis dan tulang punggung tetap memanjang, tubuh dan wajah ke arah depan. 
9. Berdiri menghadap tembok, kaki selebar pinggul, kedua telapak tangan menempel pada tembok, beratkan dada dan kepala ke arah bumi.

Here's a few exercises that should get you going on your shoulders stretching overhead. This video was sped up 1.5x. First one is the good old wheel, in this clip I demonstrated one time of walking my hands in before lifting up. In ashtanga we walk in to do 3-5 backbends in a row, so try doing it at least 3 times in a row if possible.  The next 2 I demonstrated with the strap. If you don't need the strap, don't use it! Also practice both sides even though I only demonstrated one side!!! They are a bit more advanced so go slow, try to take at least 5 slow deep breaths at your farthest point and make sure you don't feel any pain or try pushing too far. Contact me with any questions!
