Photos from this morning’s hike around Silvermine, up to Noordhoek Peak and across to Elephant Eye Cave. Beautiful and serene to hike inside the cloud blanket with views all around the peninsula. So happy to live so close to such splendor!
Spent 2 hours yesterday morning walking amidst the fynbos flowers of Silvermine, enjoying the sunshine and taking in the views of 2 oceans... another world just 5 mins from my house! Spoilt to live in Cape Town where there’s a nature reserve and a mountain trail down the road!
I want you to know how happy I've been
How I took the time away from you
How I fell back in
I want you to see the smile in my eyes
The ease of my laughter
This hair without ties
And I want you to know when to let go of me
Cause sometimes it's better to go and to seek
Than to carry the fear, hole up, and retreat

Mineral de Pozos. Eighteenth Century silver town 45 mins from SMA. Secret so the Spanish wouldnt confiscate the silver. Multiple mines, processing facilities, brothels on individual haciendas. Destroyed by the French in mid-eighteenth. Operated until 1930’s when underground blasting found a spring which flooded the whole place, and killed maybe 1000 people. Spectacular beauty. #mineraldepozos#silvermine#sanmigueldeallende#guanajuato
I wrote about my visit and chat with owner/designer Marsha Glazer of the beautiful GrayBarns in Silvermine, Connecticut. This place is amazing and no detail has been overlooked! Click the link in profile and it’s the top post!
Henry Dahlstrom's Garage. Shot in January of 1998 with my #Mamiyarz67 on #FUJIPROVIA100
On this particular day, @kristenthompson77 and I were shooting this location when a pickup truck pulled up behind me. I turned around to find an old man and women staring blankly at me. I smiled and nodded which had no effect on either one of them. I figured that they were coming to see what the "strangers" were up to which happened to us alot in towns like this. As I resumed shooting I heard a door open and noticed the old man was walking towards me. I said hi is this your garage? The old man said nothing walking passed me entering the building. Once inside I seen him grab a long gun and sit in a chair looking at me through the window with the same expression on his face. This too also happens occasionally and is understandable when you consider that it may be an hour before the nearest sheriff's deputy arrives.
For years I've always wondered what his story was and while researching the age of this building I came across a #nytimes interview he granted before his death on December 11 2004. Although not a complete picture, his comments really spoke to why these towns feel the way the do about "outsiders". To that end, I will let the late Mr Dahlstrom explain it in his own words. "It tees me off," Dahlstrom says. "This stuff doesn't belong to them. People used to break into my garage and take tools and stuff. Anything they could. You got to have a watchman here all the time. I don't know why they do it the world's going to hell." #SANCLEMENTEPHOTOGRAPHER#travelphotography#PROPACK#shotonfilm#tiffenfilters#goldfield#nevada#roadtrip#mamiya#mediumformat#manfrotto#bogen#ghosttown#middleofsomewhere#tbt#dahlstromsgarage#sagebrush#oldwest#silvermine#nevadaghosttown#HWY95#henryandthelma

Mark Twain, in his first book, “Innocents Abroad:”
“It was in this park that that fellow with an unpronounceable name made the attempt upon the Russian Czar’s life last spring with a pistol. The bullet struck a tree. Ferguson showed us the place. Now in America that interesting tree would be chopped down or forgotten within the next five years, but it will be treasured here. The guides will point it out to visitors for the next eight hundred years, and when it decays and falls down they will put up another there and go on with the same old story just the same.”
Story Time: In the land of #Salsadancing#Bachata and people who actually know how to dance, WE (two #gringos who stick out like sore thumbs) started the #danceparty at the 'hottest' club in #zacatecas#laminaclub 🙌🏽 this club is inside an old #silvermine . You literally ride a tram through a #mineshaft to arrive to the sounds of #reggaeton and #housemusic and fog machines. Then you're seated at one of the tables that create a circle around the dance floor. The dance floor is empty. It's 11:45pm. People are drinking, laughing, and shyly dancing in their seats. I ask the woman next to me why no one is dancing...she doesn't know. The #DJ throws on a fire track and I look to Ryan and say what are we waiting for?! So we knock our beers together, take a glug and we strut to the floor and #DANCE 💃🏻people are hootin n hollaring, clapping, and laughing...but then they join us. Next thing we know we're bumpin hips with the best of em 😎 #fuckit#whynot
