Originally Robert Rodriguez envisaged Johnny Depp in the role of 'Johnny Boy' but Depp had prior commitments so could not play the part. While attending the Oscars, Rodriguez saw Benicio Del Toro with long hair and knew straightaway he was looking at 'Johnny Boy'. He told Del Toro not to cut his hair and mailed him a copy of the script and the short 'The Customer is Always Right' (it served as the opening sequence to Sin City). Del Toro needed no further encouragement and immediately signed on.
Even though the characters never meet in 'Sin City', this was the first time that Elijah Wood and Brittany Murphy worked together. Bizarrely their next film would be the CGI animated 'Happy Feet' (2006) in which they portray a couple. .
Guest director Quentin Tarantino directs the scene involving Clive Owen's character 'Dwight' and Del Toro's 'Jackie Boy' aka Jake Rafferty, in front of the car, before Dwight is pulled over by a police officer. He also directs the scene when Dwight is hallucinating and talking to Jackie Boy's corpse.
Hartigan (Bruce Willis): "An old man dies, a young woman lives. A fair trade."
Dwight (Clive Owen): "Most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century."
Marv: "Walk down the right back alley of Sin City, and you can find anything."
Happy birthday to my bestie 💕 We've been through so much in our 11 years of friendship and I know we'll be close forever. Even when it seems as if we've grown apart or we haven't hung out in forever we see each other once and it's like nothing's changed. I'm excited to get all dressed up with you again and party it up in Vegas this weekend to celebrate 😏👍🏼 #BirthdayBitch#SinCity#Vegas#Throwbacks
CES 2013, Las Vegas. January, 2013.⠀
I just found a stash of old photos I took when I went to CES with @verge in 2013. Almost all of them are unsalvageable trash, but there are a handful that might be worth sharing over the next few days (mostly because I have no interest in setting foot in Vegas ever again, so these are probably the only photos I’ll ever take there).
