When my mom was a little girl she only had one birthday party. Her parents bought her a cake that had a Barbie in it and it was the only store bought cake she ever received. she was so excited about her cake but By the time it was time to get a piece it was all gone.
My mom told me this story right before I moved away to Japan and I remember wanting to make it up to my mom in some way. My parents always made sure my brothers and I had whatever we needed and alot of what we wanted growing up; but like most kids we often took our parents for granted. I don't remember ever trying to have a big celebration for my parents birthday it was always their job to make it a big deal for our birthdays... At least that's how I thought when I was little.
This year I was finally able to give my mom a little bit of what she still does for me on my birthday. Melissa's cakes in Roscoe made this awesome cake and delivered it to my mom for me since I live 8 hrs away and it's gluten free! I even found a Barbie that was brand new from the sixties!!! (Because no matter what my mom tells you she was born in the sixties, don't let her fool you people!) Mom, I know this doesn't make up for the lack luster birthdays we've given you this far; but I hope you know how much we ALL appreciate you and are so thankful to have you in our lives. Every second we get to spend with you is a moment that we are forever grateful for and we love you so much.
Happy birthday Mom, I love you more and you'll always be my favorite <3 -brittnie; your favorite child ;)
