About 45lbs of body-weight lost since December and still managed to pull 525lbs off the floor for 4 reps today. Body-weight is right around the 180lb mark now.
One of the best things you can do when dieting for fat loss is ensure you have a properly structured weight training program in place. The more muscle you have and can maintain throughout a diet, the better your physique will look in the end. More often than not it also typically results in being able to diet on higher levels of food.
Dropping calories excessively low, over-doing cardio, switching all of your workouts to high rep/low load training and doing too much training in general is a great recipe for muscle loss while dieting.
It is important to remember that while on reduced calories, your ability to recover from workouts will at some point take a hit. This does not necessarily mean that workout intensity needs to come down, but overall training volume must be managed appropriately.
On some days the hardest part is continuing to put those heavy loads on the bar when your body just wants to quit. The mental fortitude that a contest prep and prolonged diet gives you is unlike anything else I have experienced in life.
